Can it be used in flower beds without killing the plants and bushes?

Yes it can. Imix it up and put a good healthy does on the nut grass and it kills it out. HOWEVER the nut grass will come back with time if you get a lot of rain but that does stays in the ground for a long time. I try not to put the spray too heavy around the base of any of my plants. I am getting ready to mix up a batch tomorrow and it is the only product that works on the nut grass in South Texas.

How many gallons will a .5 oz packet makeup? Will 1 gallon treat 1000 square ft.

The .5 Oz packet is mixed with one gallon of water per the instructions, if you dilute it more, it may not work. Would recommend only treating the nutsedge you see so the treatment area varies upon your infestion, in my case I covered ~12,000 square feet, but again only treating the actual weeds, weed area was between 1000 and 1500 square feet.

Is there a best time of year to apply this?

Sedgehammer should be applied when weeds are actively growing. It is important not to use any herbicide in the heat of the day. Make sure that the application time is in the early morning or later evening hours.

Can this product be spot applied with a dropper to the leaf base of each nutsedge plant?

I’m sure it can be. It needs to be mixed with 1 gallon of water. I used a old windex spray bottle.
