Times are tough for Julia Stonecypher (Olivia Newton-John) and her family. A widow with two young daughters, Julia has struggled to keep up financially. To make matters worse, she loses her job just days before Christmas. So when Brian Harding (Gregory Harrison), an upscale banker from the city, comes to collect on her outstanding bills, Julia is unable to pay. After informing her that she will lose her house, Brian takes off into the snowstorm, but doesn't make it far. When he crashes his car and injures himself, Julia allows him into her home despite his surly attitude. But as they wait out the storm together, Brian seems to have a change of heart and it looks as though this might be a merry Christmas for Julia after all.

Gregory Harrison and Olivia Newton John!
Love this movie! Never gets old. After Olivia passed away last August, I bought this and watched it over and over. Of course, she'll always be Sandy, but this movie shows a different side of her acting. And Gregory Harrison...enough said there.

DVD in great condition
This movie is a holiday favorite at our home. The DVD was sealed in cellophane packaging and arrived to us in excellent condition. I can't remember if it shipped in a bubble mailer or a cardboard dvd mailer, but I do remember thinking they took adequate measures to package item in a manner to prevent potential damage from happening during transit. Anyhow, there were no playback issues and we thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Good heartfelt movie.
The story was good and great to see Olivia Newton John sharing her talent. However, the quality of dvd was subpar. Some high tech company need to do that thing they do, to upgrade this to today’s standards and make it better and more user friendly. We had to try several DVD players before we got to watch the movie.

A great family friendly Christmas film
I've enjoyed watching this each Christmas for awhile and was quite happy to find it available on DVD.It's a charming story of a young widow trying to make ends meet and the banker who arrives just prior to Christmas to foreclose on her home. The story revolves around him getting stuck at her house in a snowstorm and coming to know her and the children. She's clueless about finances and he has to learn about caring for others instead of finances.Okay, it's a corny Christmas movie but it is the kind of story that warms the heart and we can use those stories all through the year. It's also the kind of movie you can pop in the DVD player with the kids and a bowl of popcorn to enjoy as a family.

Equal parts bittersweet and outright cruel
"A Christmas Romance" is a strange prototype for the modern-day Hallmark Countdown to Christmas films. It has the requisite struggling widow, cute kids, and city-slicker jerk who realizes The True Meaning Of Christmas, but it also has a cruel edge. The male lead isn't just a standard-issue jerk, but a banker who is evicting a farmer from her home on Christmas Eve. The kids aren't just cute, they're also deeply traumatized by the recent death of their father and spend much of the film in mourning. And the widow isn't just stoic and beautiful, she's also justifiably angry and consistently sniping the banker with insults. It's an odd mix. What does work is the movie's bittersweet undercurrent, particularly in a scene with the widow struggling desperately to locate gifts for her kids in her attic. The ending is unconvincing, but at least it leaves room for the characters to grow.

A Disappointment...
I hate to say it, because I like Olivia, but her acting in this is something to be desired. She is soooooo wooden, not only in her verbal expressions, but physically too. The little girl who plays her eldest daughter is wonderful in comparison. I did watch it until the end; but now it's making its way to the charity shop....
