I couldn't be happier!
I am very picky with my instruments and I own some quite expensive ukuleles. I am literally AMAZED at the quality and sound of this Kmise baritone uke, and at the attention to detail. The quality of building is very high, and the instrument came with a set up that seemed made by a luthier. Nut slots perfectly cut, not too low, not too high. No strings buzzing. Perfect strings action at the 12th fret (2.75mm). The sound is awesome, loud and warm with plenty of clarity. Intonation is spot on. I cannot believe that such a good instrument can be sold at such an affordable price. Kudos to the maker.

WOW!!!
This review is for the 30 inch mahogany Kmise baritone ukulele. I've been playing stringed instruments for a long time, made quite a few and do some light luthier work. Around the house there are half a dozen acoustic guitars seven ukuleles, a mandolin or two, a violin and various other stringed oddities. I like the ukulele and find that with my large hands, anything smaller than a tenor is almost unplayable. I wanted a baritone to see if finally I could get a uke that fit my hands and this one does. For the less than sixty bucks, I wasn't expecting a great instrument. Usually, the intonation and action on instruments in this price range is not good and I have to spend some time adjusting string height and saddle angles. The surprise was that after tuning it up, I checked string height and intonation and found them absolutely spot on. For an out-of-the-box instrument, that is nothing short of amazing. The sound of this uke is full, round and pleasant. I tuned to GCEA, rather than traditional baritone uke tuning of DGBE. An answer to a product question on the sales page says the uke is strung DGBE and that is not accurate. If you're going to tune to standard baritone DBGE, I recommend purchasing a set of baritone strings for that tuning. Kmise strings are great and the best is a set of their reds. What I really like: **The frets are installed correctly and none have any sharp extensions beyond the fret board (one of the selling points in the description). **Fret markers are installed on the side of the fret board! Amazing this selling point is not mentioned on the product page, as it's a big deal. **Tuning machines and pegs are high quality, with no drag, hesitation or slip. **Playable up to the 19th fret. **The stringing job is neat and excellent. Thing I don't like: **Nothing. Final thoughts: **As with any new, nylon stringed instrument, you'll have to tune it up frequently for the first few days. It's not the instrument or strings' fault. It's because ukes, guitars and other instruments ship with the strings loose to keep variations in temperature (think -60F at 40,000 ft) from warping the neck or body. **It could be prettier, with faux mother of pearl here and there, and so what? This uke looks good, sounds great, and is set up perfectly. What more do you want for under sixty bucks?

Maybe buy an extra set of strings when you order?
Good for the price. Got it as an extended stay at family “gift” to myself so I can have it while I am here. PROBLEM- the strings were completely off for a baritone. I think they tried to tune it/string it as a standard ukulele. This meant I had to buy and restring it myself. This wasn’t a deal breaker for the price but a big bummer to have to wait another day or two to get the strings and go through the hassle of cutting off perfectly fine strings to be replaced with the correct gauges.

Solid build and nice tone
Having grown up learning to play classical guitar I love the tonal quality of a full size guitar but enjoy the portability of a ukulele. I wanted a mid range uke that I wouldn't feel bad if it got a little dinged in transport. When this arrived I was extremely pleased at the build. No rattle or buzz, however, I didn't care much for the factory installed strings. So I ordered some new D'Addario Baritone strings and got to work. The depth of tone and richness of sound was well worth it and this uke is a lot of fun to play! As with most newly strung instruments it takes a few tunings as the strings relax but it's not from poor hardware. The tuners have remained true with no slippage. If you're wanting a reasonable baritone uke I definitely would recommend this one to start with.

Great Uke
Yet another Edit: I bought two tenor ukes from another brand on Amazon and ended up returning them because 1) the quality wasn't what I expected and 2) by putting the capo on the fifth fret of this one it has standard uke tuning and this sounded better than both tenors (I have mine tuned DGBE). I see the price went up since I bought mine but I still think it's worth it. Edit to add: I see this is currently unavailable and unknown if it will return. I hope someone from Kmise sees this comment: this is a great Uke for the price, I really hope Kmise starts making it again. This is a very nice instrument. I've seen some lower ratings for this but from people who aren't familiar with ukuleles. First the "broken chipped " saddle. It's a compensated saddle this is actually a desired feature and helps with tone, it's intentional not broken. When you get any string instrument they are down tuned to keep pressure off the neck during shipment. There are cheap tuners and free apps you can use to tune your instrument. This isn't a flaw but is done to protecting the instrument. When you get it it has standard uke strings on it, I admit this is annoying, however when buying a stringed instrument you're going to want to replace strings anyway, there's no way to tell how old the installed ones are so it's ideal to start fresh. Baritone strings are less than $10 and are often on sale. It wouldn't hurt to get two sets in case you break a string. If you're unsure how to restring a uke there's a lot of videos on YouTube that are helpful. Also please bear in mind newer strings don't stay in tune. They stretch a lot. Once they settle in, usually after a day or two you're still going to have to tune before you play. Weather and temperature really affect string instruments, it's annoying buy normal. I have a soprano kmise and love it. It was used off ebay and it's great, that's why I decided to get this Baritone. I got this yesterday and have already swapped the strings out and the strings are definitely settling in. I tried very unsuccessfully to play guitar, taking lessons and all and it wasn't going well. My hands are pretty small so the bigger fretboard was quit difficult. I picked up a concert (a Ranch) and soprano ukulele (the kmise) and was much more successful so I figured I'd give this a shot. It's tuned DGBE when you get true baritone strings so I can play it like a guitar but the chords are simpler because you're not fretting six strings. Also with this if you put a capo on the fifth fret you can play it like a soprano, concert or tenor. I hope if you're getting discouraged with guitar you see this and it's helpful. If you don't get this specific uke at least consider another baritone before giving up. I will update if my opinion changes but after having the soprano for as long as I have and with nothing but good things to say about that one I doubt I'll have anything to add.

Great little instrument - With a truss rod!
The ukulele is really good. This baritone delivers a solid bass that gives a nice "round" tone overall. Not all baritones will do this. The setup was spot on - the way a good "standard" setup should be. However, I play with a light touch and desire a really low action. I filed the nut down somewhat and adjusted the truss rod - for me, it now plays like "butter." Which brings me to the feature that sold me - the truss rod. You don't often find them on ukuleles. On a baritone the need is even greater. Without a truss rod, if your neck ever gets a bow in it, say from weather or elements, fixing it can get expensive. I found the truss rod to be very effective. I would add, that if you are not experienced filing a nut or adjusting a truss rod, you must have a technician do it for you. This uke has a natural finish, not much shine at all. You can however, get a shine - it just takes some elbow grease. I just used a guitar polish and soft cloth and paper towel - expect to spend some time. This of course, is purely a matter of taste. Check with a technician to make sure the polish you use will not affect the tone. This is a great little instrument - a better player than those costing more.

I love my new baritone!!
UPDATE/SECOND UKULELE REVIEW: I ordered another one because I wanted to give my son one. The second one came with an Allen wrench for adjusting the truss rod. I’ve been told NOT to adjust it unless you absolutely know what you’re doing. The thing is, the first ukulele I bought didn’t have the truss rod, no Allen wrench, so I’m a little confused on which one to keep and which one to give to my son. The second one is a little longer in length and a little heavier. I’m thinking probably I’ll keep this one as it is a little bigger. Both are equally beautiful and the sound is amazing. On this one, the frets are a little sharp like the first, but I’ll again file them down. This one also tuned to GCEA. I’m happy with this purchase also, I just wondered why one had a truss rod and one didn’t. Still no case, but I knew that. It’s still worth the money, and both are very pretty! FIRST REVIEW: It’s so pretty! I did tune it to GCEA, and I love the sound. I didn’t notice any buzzing. There is some sharpness on the sides between the frets, but it’s not something I’m upset about. I actually took a nail file...the smoothest I could find (320 grit) and smoothed them down with that , and they are perfect. Mine was only the ukulele so no case, but I did order one one and it’s coming today. It’s worth the money!

Arrived broken, buyers beware. *UPDATED*
This uke arrived completely broken and unusable out of the box. From the factory it was shipped with the strings tight - Huge mistake. The heel joint on the neck had basically no visible glue in it, the bridge nut had no glue holding it in place either. Poor build quality in those aspects. The mahogany looks decent, albeit its definately plywood, but what can you expect at this price. That being said; if I was anyone who hanst been playing and building their own instruments for the past 15 years, this thing would be in the garbage can. The heel was split from the body due to to much tension from the strings and a lack of glue/structural support at the joint. I'd assume all of these are shipped the same way, so this is a real risk for everyone else purchasing. I purchased this as a gift for a family member who wanted to get into music, and what a rough start its been. Hopefully resetting and gluing the neck in place will fix it, if not I'll be asking for a full refund. EDIT*** After fixing and getting this uke playable and back in action I would still not reccomend this in its functional form. There is 0 adjustability to be found in the neck, no truss rod causing it to have a pretty noticeable bow when tuned. Tuning is another beast on its own, I've been doing for about 45 minutes trying to get this thing to stay in tune, and it's not happening. Intonation is also way off ANYTHING difficult to play. Look elsewhere if you want a playable instrument.

It's exactly like the picture
It's exactly like the picture. Nice baritone for a beginner like me. As others have commented in their reviews, this Baritone comes strung with Aquila GCEA strings. Had to buy a set of Aquila 21U DGBE strings and restring it. Initially, I'm having an issue keeping it tuned, but I've only had it a couple days. Have to give the strings time to settle in. With the new strings on it, it has a very rich tone which I think sounds wonderful. I had a friend drop by and give it a try, he loved it. He went home and ordered one for himself. As for the shipping, I was disappointed with Purolator. I was not home when they came. Although I received my package a day sooner than expected, I had no idea that they had left the box on my front lawn behind my driveway gate. It was a fluke that I checked the tracking of my order and was very surprised that it said it was "Delivered and signed for at the Front Door" several hours before. My front door is 150' from where they left it. Can only imagine what condition it would have been in if it starting raining and laid there overnight. As of Oct. 1/18 Strings are nicely settled in and stays tuned for longer periods of time depending on use. I love this instrument, very happy with it. Can't beat the price (79.99CA). I took a picture of it with my Lohanu Concert Ukulele for size comparison.

Not just for beginners.
This thing is amazing. It even has an adjustable trust rod that gets the action and intonation bang on. It's super light but also heavy duty. And how smooth the rugged wood grain is satisfies me to hold it feel it and look at it. For the sound, it sounds really clear and balanced. But it's also loud and not any buzz or dead spots. The bridge is carved with care so that deffinatly helps alot eith the intonation. I'm satisfied bot just for my money but just as an instrument alone. I'd recommend this to a beginner because it will last a mature handling without killing the bank but will serve a great tool to enjoy learning on and add it to any instrument collection.

Great Ukulele for the $$
I wanted to check out the baritone Ukulele, but I wasnt prepared to spend a lot.. This ukulele was not only reasonably priced.. it turned out to be good quality too.. It has great action, wonderful sound, the neck is smooth to move up and down... I would definitly reccomend this to anyone wanting to check out the baritone uke. I did change out the strings from GCEA to GBDE .. makes it an even warmer sounding instrument.
