Queen Mary I Mary I, perhaps best known by the moniker Bloody Mary, was Englandโs first female monarch who ruled in her own right. A fighter from birth, she was the only surviving child of Henry VIII and his wife Catherine of Aragon. Mary would make her way back to her fatherโs good graces after being cast out by him in favor of his numerous wives and would eventually undo her fatherโs religious reforms by restoring Roman Catholicism in England. The fourth Tudor to rule England, Mary is remembered for burning around three hundred Protestants at the stake on her quest for religious reform. Inside you will read about... โ A Survivor from Birth โ Her Fatherโs Six Wives โ Long Road to the Throne โ Executions and Phantom Pregnancies โ The Death of Bloody Mary And much more! In this book, we will discover the true-life story of Mary Iโthe infamous English queen who claimed her place in history after a mere five years as regent. Review: A good brief history - If you are looking for a good overview of the life of this controversial queen, this is a good place to start. While it is not an exhaustive study of her life and the times, it gives a good understanding of the times and events which shaped Queen Mary I. Review: Very quick read - It was interesting. She had my 12 times great grandfather, burned at the stake.

Well written, but lacks detail.
I am no expert of history, but this book gave quite a picture of the tumultious times that England have suffered through. I would have liked more details about the schemes that were hatched. (Treatchery continues, through the ages.)

A straight forward glimpse at the reign of Mary and her place in History.
An excellent review of Mary and her rule and her place in history. The author has found the right blend of facts and personality. Not overwhelming but enough to introduce the setting and historical significance of this slice of time.

Another great read
I enjoy all Hourly history books. Other than trying to figure out and remember who-is-who in British succession, this book was well written, giving us a good insight into the life Mary I, as well as including other important characters.

Interesting look at the life of Bloody Mary
The book is an interesting look at the life of Mary Tudor. She was a devout catholic and earned the infamous nickname โBloody Mary,โ due to her persecution of Protestants. The methods she chose were horrific. She accomplished a few things but I associate her reign with the terror she caused.

An Informative Little Book
I really enjoyed this potted history of the life and reign of Bloody Mary. The strength of religious belief in such times is difficult to understand in the 21st century. Her father Henry has much to bear for the actons of his daughter.
