VITAL to play 78 RPM records! Seriously, this is VITAL.
78s actually sound GREAT when played with the right stylus. This one I have been using for awhile now, I have played over 100 records with it so far and there are no signs of it wearing out.You can't say that for "older" ruby styluses. These follow the record grooves nicely and my 78s never sounded so good! It's remarkable how well they sound. Don't ever try to play 78's with a "typical" diamond needle because it is too small, it will slide down to the bottom of the groove, picking up all of the dusty noise that lives there while destroying the groove sides. This stylus sits pretty, right where it needs to be on the groove walls, picking up the remarkable amount of sound information that IS ACTUALLY THERE.It's a huge difference. As in HUGE.If you have 78s and a record player that can take this stylus-- you owe yourself the experience to get one and enjoy it. It's quite amazing to be able to truly listen to these old 78s. They are a lot better than you think.

Ok, not great.
No increase in quality in my opinion. It sounds louder which is good. Does not snap into place. Not good. It'd be a great last resort.

It might be a little tricky to install unless you have nimble fingers, If you have hands of "stone" it might be a little more difficult. But it plays beautifully while it might even omit some of the cracks and pops as it grooves through the cracks.

Works & easy to change
With a bit of care, it is easy to change. It works well playing 78 RPM LPs. I recommend this for anyone wanting to play 78 LPs.UPDATE: I see others indicating that this did not fit their player. I use it with the Ion Audio Mustang LP Ford 4-in-1 Classic Car Styled Music Center, Red and it fits well on mine.https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Mustang-LP-Classic-Styled/dp/B01KBXKLP4/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1545732351&sr=8-6&keywords=ion+turntable

NO cartridge!
Understand that this is NOT a cartridge despite the listing as such, it's just the stylus. $25 for one stylus seems like highway robbery but there may not be another option. I haven't actually tried the stylus yet as my turntable won't arrive till tomorrow. If there's more to say once I've tried it out I'll update this review.OK....bad news. Changing the stylus on these puppies is quite the chore. Gone are the days of my youth when you just flipped over the 2-sided needle and played yr 78s. This pretty much requires that you remove the cartridge -- no easy task, it doesn't want to let go -- and then wrestle the stylus out -- it doesn't want to let go either. There is a little tab inside the stylus housing in the front that snaps into the cartridge housing, and this 78 stylus had a tab that was just barely there and wouldn't hold the stylus in the cartridge. So this purchase was a massive failure. It is possible to buy a 78 rpm stylus from the Ion website for about the same price and I guess I'll try that and hope for better luck. It would have been a lot easier if the item was actually as described and included the cartridge -- one less wrestling match to make the change and presumably the stylus would fit.

Necessary accessory if you want to play 78's on your Ion turntable
Not much to say here. Read our review of the Ion Audio Air turntable for details. This was for 78 RPM records, as the supplied stylus is only for 45 and 33. This worked as advertised. Easy to install, just slides on or off.

Stylus (it's not a cartridge - that's separate) works fine, but it didn't fit into the cartridge of the Ion Classic LP turntable I bought with it. The stylus body is just a smidgen too long. Emailed customer service and only got a "we're very busy now" reply, and nothing else for three weeks so far. I finally superglued it into the cartridge and now all works fine. Of course, I can't swap it out for the regular needle which came with the Ion turntable, but I only plan on using this turntable for 78's, so that's not a problem.
