Perfect if you love having a fire but don't love smelling like one.
We love fires for the holidays and during the Fall & Winter. What we don't love is the entire house smelling like smoke. So I've been looking for one of these for a while. I decided to take a chance on this one despite it being on the pricey side because of all the ones I've seen it looks the most like an actual bed of coals with logs. Let's start with the look: It looks amazing, even when not turned on. When it's on it's perfect. The bed of glowing embers with "flames" above them, topped with the logs just looks like a real fire. The rolling fire effect not only goes through the logs but also reflects off the back of the fireplace, which makes for a very realistic effect. We could not be happier with the appearance. It gives that cozy feel just as we were hoping. The heater is surprisingly strong on high and blows hot air quickly and powerfully. No complaints there either. As for the sound, it's a mixed bag. The crackling sound is nice & subtle on low, but on high sounds very tinny. This comes down to a small, weak speaker. I'm not worried about it because on low it sounds just right. On high my wife says it sounds like someone lit a fire in a tin can. I might replace the speaker with a better one down the road, but it's fine as is. A nice bonus in the manual is the back page is a schematic, which would make any repairs or upgrades easier. The wind sound is kind of pointless. I get what they were going for (a fire on a windy day) but the result sounds exactly like someone frying bacon in a pan. Not much reason I can think of to ever use it. Still, I'm not taking a star off for such a minor thing I'll never use. The remote is simple and easy to use. I guess it's the nature of the design, but since the remote sensor is tucked away under the "grate", you have to be sure to aim in the right spot for it to work. As I write this review I'm sitting next to the fireplace. I love the coziness of it, and every once in a while my eye catches the glow and my brain wonders why there's no heat coming off the fire. Then I remember it's metal and plastic. We really couldn't be happier with this. It adds the look (and mostly the sound) of a real fire without the mess and smell (first world problems, right?). I can't say how durable it will be but it feels solidly built, and other than the cheap speaker it feels well thought out. It's one of the more expensive ones...I've seen these for $100 or less on sale...but it looks much more realistic than the cheap models.

Very Realistic
Just received my fireplace insert and installed it. Love it. I installed it in a Franklin fireplace and the appearance is just like a real log fire. I read other reviews who were saying that the crackling sounded tinny. You do have different settings and setting it on low which I prefer, sounds perfect without any tinny sound. The heater is amazing with different settings as well. Setting the thermostat half way produces enough of heat for my comfort which heats about a 700 sq. ft. space with no problem. The nice point about the heater is that it will shut down when your desired temperature is reached. While it does not have a visible thermostat temperature reading, I use a thermometer placed in the heated space to determine what the actual temperature is and adjust the log heater accordingly. Definitely worth the price as compared to a gas fireplace and looks practically the same including heat.

Very realistic
We installed this in minutes and now expect years of enjoyment from this thing. It’s a little large for my fireplace but it looks soooo cool. Love the sound effects. Decided to install this because the cap is gummed up so we put in a fake fire to prevent the smoke. This thing is amazing and so much better than expected. No need for the curved plexiglass in a small fireplace. Nice heat coming off of the unit as well. Has a remote for some limited settings. The projection of flames against the back is spot on. Nice and safe compared to the flame and guarantees no carbon monoxide poisoning from a fireplace fire.

LOVE It!!
I grew up with wood burning stoves and fireplaces . The sound of a fire crackling brings back wonderful memories and I love to sit and watch the flames. I took a chance on this and am off the charts HAPPY with my purchase. it looks pretty real in action. On the lowest sound setting, it sounds just like a real fire burning. It takes a while to heat the room—on the highest heat, setting it warms my living room, which is an open area about 20 x 20’. The written instructions were easy to follow, although I chose not to bother with ‘assembly’. The only assembly required is a plexiglass, backsplash, sort of thing that you screw on, but I didn’t bother with it and it looks great and works fine without it Hands down best Amazon purchase I’ve ever made.

It's Pretty Good, But Sound isn't Great
I got this to go in our fireplace. For a whole host of reasons I no longer want to have actual fires in the fireplace, but I do like the ambience of having a fire. Set up was very straight forward. Took it out of the box, tested it, screwed the screen onto the back, set it in the fireplace, and plugged it in. I initially was not going to use the screen, but it is almost invisible in my fireplace and does enhance the flame effect. The flames were still visible on the back of the fireplace without it, but with the screen the illusion is much better. Visually it is quite good. At a glance it looks pretty real. There are 3 flame settings. The second setting doesn't change the intensity much, just seems to eliminate the blue flames. I like the blue so I set it on either the highest or the lowest setting. The camera on my phone does weird stuff when I turned the fire to the lowest setting so it doesn't really show it well. I like the gentle glow with subdued flames at that low setting. There seem to be 6 difference sound settings. Loud, medium and soft for 2 different styles of crackling - one that sounds like sizzling hot oil, and the other that sounds more realistically like a fire. All of them sound a bit hollow and fake. My husband hates them. I kind of like the low setting on the one that is more realistic. The sound is controlled with the remote only. There is also, of course, the heater, which works very well, but the fan is loud. It's still pretty warm here so I have only tested it to make sure it works. It does. It started pouring out heat immediately. There is a thermostat knob on the side for the heater. The remote works well. You can't be on the other side of the house, but within about 10-15 feet it works great. Overall I am very happy with it and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again knowing what I know now.

Great Fire Effect
This Oak electric fire worked perfectly for us. The effect is quite realistic. I found the sound to be fine; I didn’t notice it sounding “tinny.” My only complaint is that I would very much like for the fire lights (NOT the heater!) to come back on when the power is cut; that way I could use Alexa to control the light show at night. Overall, a well designed product. I’m ordering the birch log set for our other fireplace.

good quality for ther price.
This little fireplace is amazing. It looks real and we are very impressed. We have a small fireplace and had to close off the chimney due to leaks and didn't want to put in a gas replacement due to cost. This works out great we don't have a dark hole where the fireplace was now, we have this nice realist looking log set. We are very happy with it. It does offer a heat option, but that isn't something we are planning to use. We were looking for the fireplace effect without the mess. With the glass doors closed it looks amazingly real.

Quick Setup and Good Design, but Remote Temperature Control Missing
I wanted to replace my wood-burning fireplace which I do not use in the basement. At the same time, I did not want to make significant changes to the structure in or around the fireplace. In case I decide to revert to the original setup, I should be able to do so easily. This product fit the bill at the time, which is why I purchased it. Installation is a breeze—it actually takes only 5–10 minutes. As far as construction is concerned, it seems solid. I have only used it for a few hours, so I cannot comment on its lifespan. The color options are good, but the crackling sound is not very natural; however, it is acceptable. My only complaint is about the thermostat. I wish the temperature could be adjusted using the remote. It is not difficult to reach and adjust manually, but having that feature on the remote would have been more convenient. It looks awesome though!!!!

Worth it
I’ve had this for over a year now. I wanted to wait to review to see how it did long term. Great option if you can’t afford or don’t want to undergo the big project of putting in a gas fireplace. I have a wood burning that is out of commission and this works perfectly. I like the lowest sound setting for the crackling. The other louder sounds are a bit fake to me. The flicker is great and it puts off good heat. Would recommend.

Worth it!
Worth the money! The sounds could use a bit of an upgrade, but everything else is awesome. Great heat, pushes throughout the room well, and looks amazing in the fireplace!

Fantastique
Bûches de belles apparences , beau reflet des flammes , craquèlements des flammes assez réalistes quoique qu’une amélioration de la qualité sonore serait appréciée
