Just read the book tells you everything
This is a very fun canoe to build. Cedar strips 11/2 wide x3/16. Used four or five 2x4x8' rough cedar. Cut into strips. Planed with thickness planer before cutting strips. Scarfed to make longer strip very easy to do. I would say Making A Ripple by Mark Schultz is a good buy. Used yellow glue for strips.

Great instructions, pictures
Looking for a simple project- this is it. I took a little longer than the time in the book; however, this is a canoe that anyone can make. Great instructions, pictures, and pacing.

Great Project
I have built several boats over the years and am very impressed with this design and construction technique. The book nicely outlines the construction project in easy to follow steps accompanied by numerous photos. This is a beautiful boat that can be built by a beginner.

A good investment of $$$ and time to study its content!
This is an easy to read book with enough pics to follow his technique. The book has one set of plans to build a 14 ft canoe that is plenty wide for stability and hauling capacity. He uses lumber yard cedar deck boards and rips them 1/4" x 1 1/2" and doesn't cup or cove the edges but screws them to the reusable form on the strongback. The outside gets taped and glassed in his own process that differes from most others and then painted. The inside is sanded ,covered in cloth and epoxy to show off the cedar. He calls it a cedar (planked) instead of cedar strip canoe. I plan on using his technique to build a 10 ft single canoe for my daughter. His strong back forms are layed out in an easy to read graph in the back of the book. I will probably use his plans in the future but don't need that size canoe at the moment. It's a great book for a person wanting to build a great looking canoe without investing $$Thousands$$ of $$$ and Thousands of hours into a craft that too nice to use. This would be a canoe that will get lots of attention but if it gets a scratch it would be a simple repair. He also explains techniques that aren't mentioned all the time. I feel its a good investment of money and time to study for the experience he gives. His technique could be used on many boat craft to build from scratch.

Awesome book
Saved me from becoming a canoe snob, I can build two and still have money left over for a winter vacation or more tools for my shop.

There are no needles explanations more like philosophy or what would happen if that/something occurred
To be honest I didn't expect so detailed and understandable proposals, instructions on canoe making. Information is detailed. There are no needles explanations more like philosophy or what would happen if that/something occurred. It is obvious book is written by real craftsman. In the end of the book are detailed plans with measures not just conceptual pictures with general hints. There is almost exactly calculation what kind of wood, glue, epoxy etc. is needed. Canoe building is explained section after section in logical order. So, if You finish this section, You finish particular amount of job. There is no need return to the beginning or middle of the book if work goes fluently and I have thoroughly followed to the instructions given to reader. I am absolutely pleased with this book.

Money Grab
Author even says on YouTube that the ripple canoe is outdated and he has a new method of building. The book seems to have been written to make a profit, not a canoe. Watch his YouTube before wasting your money
