Secret Sin Leaves Lasting Scars and Hurts
In the search for finding his biologic parents because of a familial medical condition, Paul finds something more. I enjoyed experiencing his excitement to finally meet his birth mom. But then we find out in disappointment that she continues to harbor old and deep hurts and bitterness. She drags with her the past guilt and shame which prevents her from engaging with interest into the success of her first born. An opposite experience occurs with his biologic father who he resembles in different ways. His father paid his penitence and achieved a hero's recognition. Plus he discovers the warmth of his paternal aunts and cousins he will come to know and their awareness of the situation early. This book reveals the effects of "sin" in the lives of two young adults and that this effected the two very differently as the years past. We also learn that the secret past effects the unaware families of the two. One remains unaware. One chooses not to acknowledge their "brother." I feel sad for the unaware families. They would enjoy meeting and knowing Paul, their discovered brother, as I have.

A Wonderful Read, Especially if You're Adopted
Adopted at the age of three, when I learned of this book and how the background of searching for biological parents was similar to my own, I felt drawn in. I'm not a reader, but I couldn't put the book down. Page after page, I read on, gripped by every twist and turn, relating to every emotion surfaced by the author. I cried and laughed throughout the book as the author, a gifted writer, ably expresses emotions that are real, raw, and authentic.By the end of the book I was worn out...in a good sort of way. Secrets of the Father awakened some old emotional traumas related to my journey of adoption and searching for my biological roots. I'll read the book again...to face some of those emotions that get stuffed away because they're too painful to hold for too long. Aubin's wisdom and counsel to those who may be in search of their biological parents, are sound and practical as well.Well done!
