Which set is best for pressed powder?

I'm sorry but I ordered a different version of this item. I would say though that neither of these would be for pressed powder. Search for Pressed Powder Brush for the right kind.

Which set has softer bristles, the black or white?

Haven't noticed a difference. I have both sets. The brushes intended purpose is to blend cream and liquid makeup products so they are denser/stiffer than a powder, eyeshadow or blush brush. They are also good for blending out edges on other face cosmetics, regardless of formula. They are a nice weight, comfortable to use and work well for their intended purpose. If you self tan, the larger brush could be good for application as long as you exfoliate 1st, you'd have to experiment. The smallest brush is helpful for "packing" on powder eyeshadow when you want a more dramatic or evening look. Personally, I'm finding these brushes quite "multi purpose" in my make up routine. Hope this helps.
