Mat for Exercise/Yoga
I like the mat but it is on the thinner side so I wouldn't recommend using it on a hard floor. It's also non slippery which is nice and the quality is okay.

Excellent grip, cushioning and style.
Absolutely love this mat, for yoga and HIIT training. I've owned them all over 20 years - some mats are too thick and cushy, some are too thin, nearly all get slippery when you sweat on them. This cork mat from Gaiam is of a normal thickness (5mm) but is light to carry and feels very soft underfoot. It doesn't get slippery when wet (no need for a Yogitoes towel on top), and it looks quite nice as well. The only thing to be wary of is that you must always roll it cork-side out (otherwise it will crack). And don't leave it rolled up too tightly otherwise it will take time to flatten out fully before class. This is now my go-to workout mat and I'm hopeful that it will hold up over time. Bonus: I got the Gaiam mat-strap thingy that is similar to one of those "slap bracelets" we had as kids (in the 90s anyway) and it works like a charm.

Cork is a game-changer
I should’ve gotten this cork mat years ago. I consistently practice flows that get me sweaty and I didn’t realize how much uncertainty I have had and extra energy I have used on other mats until I did my practice on this mat today. I felt strong and secure and grounded through the sweat. If your hands and feet sweat during your practice like me, I would highly recommend investing in the cork mat. This isn’t even a high end mat but it works like a dream and I like the feel of the more natural material on my hands and feet.

What you need to know
Firstly, I am a beginner. Brand new to yoga. So it comes rolled up with the upside rolled away for a reason. If you forcibly flatten it by rolling it the other way or simply rolling it as you would any other mat, then you get creases. I would say if you are buying this for travelling or looking to store it rolled up, be careful with it. I have left my mat flat and simply keep it to the side when I don't need it. After initially learning about the mat and how to use it, I have practised with it for five hours or so and have to say it is lovely. Here is what you must understand: you have to wet it with a damp towel or cloth every time you use it, and I would say for hot yoga, get it especially wet. You can wait a bit for the water to soak into the cork, but the cork needs the dampness to be extra grippy, as any other plastic mat would be. As the water is being soaked into the cork, it can also look like it's drying, but it is still there, don't worry. Once this is done, it can be very secure and comfortable. I find my hands less rough and my skin feeling taught when I use the mat correctly. The thickness is mostly in the underlayers, as the cork is only 1-2 mm. The size of the mat is slightly smaller then that of the yoga mat I had previously, but honestly, I don't see any loss in the shorter cork mat as I am short myself. Another thing to be aware of is that the smell will go away in a few hours or if you wet it a couple of times. If you bring it to a studio and there happens to be a break in the session, take that time to re-dampen the mat. My joints feel very supported and protected as I use this mat where whereas my other yoga mat just sinks and impresses with my body weight. I actually find the whole process and use of the mat to be very methodical, and love the organic design the cork naturally makes as a pattern. I would highly recommend this to other beginners.

Yoga teacher approved - just wet it a little in the beginning
For price and performance fantastic. I’ve taught yoga for over 10 years. I personally practice 2-4x a week on this mat primarily hot yoga and it’s holding up great! I don’t roll it up great and I toss it around and it’s handling it like a champ. You do have to roll it with cork on the outside or it will crease. I also recommend pour a little or spray a little water where your hands and feet go in the beginning of practice to give more traction - not slip. Once I start sweating it’s fine but in the beginning sometimes it’s a little slippery. (I’ve used all the name brand mats over my career and practice and I just wanted to see how a cheap basic mat would compare and this has been better than I expected).

Okay mat but returned it
The product was okay, and I ended up returning it. I got it because I wanted a cork mat. I let the mat air out outside for a couple of hours before the first use. I used it for regular yoga classes and hot yoga; it's supposed to be okay with heat, but the mat was not very well-suited for hot yoga. The mat curled up, and it looked like it was starting to crack. It appeared nice when I first got it, but it got stained very easily and looked a little rough after only 3 uses. The grip was good for regular yoga classes, but not the best for the heated yoga class. It was very thin, more than I expected it to be. The cost is good, but I would rather pay a little more for higher mat quality and thickness.
