Made me love my retired cast iron pan again.
I hated my cast iron pan because food stuck to it and it took hulk strength to scrub off; seasoning with olive oil made a greasy mess; when I cooked anything with a strong odor, it stayed in the pan no matter how much I scrubbed and only stopped smelling if I used soap - the number one enemy of cast iron. I retired it to a closet, never to be used again. Then my friend raved and raved about her pan and showed me some pointers...so out came my pan. This seasoning made me love my pan again. When I took it out of the closet, it had a little rust on it. I scrubbed the rust off with a scouring sponge, washed really clean with soap, and coated the entire pan (top and bottom) lightly with this oil. I put this into my oven and baked it for 30 minutes. I pulled it out - good as new. I fried wontons in it - not one thing stuck. Next I tried an omlette and as surprised it came out better than on my nonstick - wow! Whereas the egg sometimes stuck to the side of my nonstick, this slid right off. The best part about this is the cleaning. I put my pan into the sink and scrub with a dish washing brush. I also bought a pan scrubber, a small hard plastic piece that removed any crusted food that didn't come off with a light scrubbing. The scrubber removed crusted on food without any elbow grease. Then I put my pan on the stove, turn up the heat to low and wipe off all water with a paper towel before it got too hot. Once I knew it was completely dry from the towel and heat, I added just about 1/2 tsp. of this oil and coated the pan. I let the oil get hot until I could see a slight smoke rise it and then turn it off right away. Cleaning and oiling takes less than 5 minutes and best of all, no more food smells. Something about this oil removed all of that. If you or people you are cooking for are allegic to coconut, this has coconut.

Amazing product
An excellent product which I have been using for years. I use it on my carbon steel pans as well, and it’s very effective.

Helps put a nice seasoning on your cast iron cookware
I guess it didn't click when reading the product description how small this bottle is. When I opened the box and saw how little it was, the first thing I said was "WTH? What a ripoff!" I admit I was pretty ticked off but decided I would give it a try anyway because we'd come across a stash of cast iron cookware that was in a moving box which had been mismarked a couple of moves ago by military movers during one of our base transfers. We finally got around to opening the box (which was labeled MISC PLANTING ITEMS....go figure), the pots and pans were dried out and needed to be re-seasoned. Everything was given a good scrub and then we used this oil to re-season them. Wow, what a difference a good oil makes. Once done in the oven, the cast iron looked brand new. There wasn't any off or burning oil smell, no greasy residue - just a set of great looking cast iron cookware. Since their cleaning and re-seasoning with this Caron & Doucet oil, these cast iron pots and skillets get constant use. We haven't run across any problems with aftertaste, odors, or abnormal food stickage. All it takes is a very small amount to fully coat a cleaned skillet or pot. We've been using this little bottle for almost a month now and still have 3/4 of it left. Gotta admit I am impressed with this product now that I'm over the sticker shock. One improvement I wish they would make would be to include a spray top. After misjudging how much oil to use on the first couple items, I found a empty metal spray bottle that was purchased empty for some craft project but never used and luckily the spray cap fit this bottle perfectly. Being able to simply spritz the cast iron surface then wipe it down is quicker and easier and can help the oil last longer since it is a lot easier to control how much you use. If I had realized how small this bottle was before clicking the "Buy it Now" button, I probably wouldn't have purchased it thinking It was too expensive and would have then wasted time looking at similar products on Amazon and other sellers as well as instructions on doing this with other oils. It IS pricey, but some of the other DIY methods we've tried on our cast iron cookware haven't had results as good as we got with this product or the smell was awful when the oil used went rancid on the cookware. But, I am glad I wasn't paying attention as this turned out to be a pretty darn good product. I did deduct a start for not having a spray top and for the price which could come down a couple bucks.

Better than cooking oil
Pros: Not sticky. Scented. Cons: Scent may affect cooking? I’m not an expert when it comes to seasoning cast iron but I do notice the difference for the better. I used to just put cooking oil on my cast iron pan and it did protect the pan. However, when I start cooking it seemed to stick to food easily. Additionally, when you leave it on for a long time it seems to make it even more sticky because of all the dust and whatnot it picked up. Read reviews about this product and everyone seems to agree this is good. I use it and it doesn’t take much to coat the pan. It also has a scent which is welcoming but when you cook it smells like you’re cooking off scent. Annoying but not a big deal. When I cook with this it does do a better job at coating the pan. So I’m a believer in not using cooking oil to protect your pan. My next I purchase is going to be the cleaner as it supposedly help not remove the seasoning. I thought the price was high but as I mention it doesn’t take much to season so it should last a while. Overall, happy with the value and quality.

Works as advertised!!!
Works very well. Two things that I liked about this product is smell of oil, especially if the cast iron is still warm when applied. Also it's clear which helps when wiping excess oil off. Being clear helps in seeing rust on the cloth or paper towel I will be buying more when I use this bottle. Great product.

I bought this product and had it shipped internationally for seasoning my cast iron pan. I saw that the product has so many great reviews so I bought it after reading a few comments. I seasoned my cast iron pan like usual and placed it in the oven at 500F. 15 minutes later I smelled this weird burnt synthetic oil smell. I open my over and whoooosh! Smoke! And a bad smell that lingered in my house. I’m very frustrated that even though this may have been a great product for coating a pan after use, the company did not market it that way. A disclaimer should be put in the packaging highlighting that this is NOT FOR SEASONING!
