So is this figure worth it? wth... amazon is selling it for $22.99 when the retail price is $19.99????

If you have the $23.99 to spend in the first place then consider this: If you want a nice looking Tracks figure then pick it up. If you want a nice looking car version of Tracks then track down a copy of the G1 toy. If you want a Tracks to play with then I'd recommend the G1 toy. If you want a transformer car toy to play with for you or a kiddo or don't particularly care about the Tracks character I'd recommend another toy like Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, Smokescreen, or Mirage (really anyone else except Bluestreak because I hear he can break easily). You could even get the "Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Galactic Odyssey Collection Biosfera Autobot Clones" for about the same price and get 2 little fun figures. I was really looking forward to Tracks and it was a let down. My version will stand up ok, but the legs are very loose; the legs will mostly tab in ok in robot mode and remain in place if I just leave it standing up and don't touch it. So really the only reasons I can recommend this is if you want to just look at it on a shelf as a robot, if you (or someone you know) have some attachment to Tracks, or if you're trying to complete your transformers collection. Maybe if you like corvettes you could get it, but if you really like corvettes the original "g1" toy or the masterpiece are better cars and actually licenced and designed to properly represent a corvette.

In the box does he come out in robot mode or car mode?

The box was badly damaged and it was in robot mode

What kind of car is he?

His alternate (car) form is a Chevrolet Corvette C3.
