I would eat this at home, not just in the backcountry.
This meal was delicious!!! And it wasn’t just because we had been hiking. My sister and I have had lots of these dehydrated backpacking meals and we agree that Peak Refuel is the best but that this butternut dal bhat was the BEST backpacking meal we’ve ever had. It’s gluten free, vegetarian (I think also vegan) but so flavorful. Has tons of protein but not as much as an animal protein meal so if you are feeling like you need more bring along some packets of chicken or jerky to up the protein intake.

Not bad at all
Not bad, and had good seasoning, though I would have liked more salt, but that can be added at the time of cooking. I should have let it set longer than the 10 minutes but 10 minutes is plenty for it to be edible. Plus, I felt good after eating it after having hiked for 3 hours.

5 stars
Maybe it was the hiking hunger but holy $?!+ this stuff was so good. I was all toasted up by the fire, just munching away on this. You got like a 9 out of 10 from me and my boyfriend. Definitely worth the little bit extra pay compared to some brands. It was also a huge portion. Only about half. Luckily I’m dating a tapeworm, So he finished off the rest of mine and his own. This is probably my favorite mre I’ve ever had.

tastes good
This is pretty good. I'll eat again. I wish I bought it at REI instead of amazon. It was cheaper at REI (on sale).

This is a lot of chow!
It should be noted that the portion size on this product is not skimpy. The bags are labeled as providing 2 servings. I ordered it thinking "sure, it's probably just barely enough for just me." But no! There is a lot of chow here. The bag weighs nearly 7 oz. before adding water. The reason I mention this is because leftover food can be a problem in bear country. If you're flying solo, maybe fix one of these at home and see about the portion size before taking it on a backpacking adventure--and if it's too much just bring along half a bag, or a friend!

Didn’t know what it was, but turned out being tasty
Right for camping, but I eat it as a meal instead of fast food. Quite tasty and filling.

Seriously good.
I split mine into 2 mylar bags because it is a lot of food for one person. I have tried a lot of freeze dried meals and this is by far the BEST pre-made camp dinner I have ever had. Seriously good.

Delicious meal that reconstitutes well at altitude.
I can't say that I've tried a huge number of backpacking meals, but I have tried a number of different meals from several different companies (maybe a dozen different ones) and this one has been the best I've tried so far. The meal is tasty, packs a fair number of calories, and doesn't come out crunchy nor soupy.
