I bought the Smartivity Hydraulic Plane Launcher as a Father’s Day gift, hoping my husband and the kids could enjoy some quality hands-on time together. It ended up being mostly my husband and me assembling it, but our son did sneak in here and there to help with some of the steps. We all had a great time! The instructions are clear, and the laser-cut wooden pieces are impressively high quality. Assembling it is part of the fun, and the clever hydraulic system using syringes and tubing makes it even more interesting to build. Once everything was put together, it became a launching station for both paper airplanes and darts! The kit includes printable paper plane templates, and the launching mechanism is surprisingly robust. Quick tip: You need to reset the plane launcher to its lower position (by pulling back the syringe) before each launch to retract the holding mechanism. This project seamlessly blends play and learning. It’s a hands-on introduction to hydraulics, physics, and basic engineering. The kids benefited from our hard work—they spent hours launching planes and darts across the room. It’s genuinely fun for both kids and adults. Highly recommend this kit for families seeking a creative, screen-free activity that offers both bonding and learning opportunities.

My grandson was elated to have received this. Not only is it a fun item, but educational as well. Who knows where this could lead to? A 12 year old designing prosthetics.? Very possible.

I gifted this and the pinball machine to my 8 year old cousin and he loved both! I helped him build the hand and the process ended up looking more complicated than it actually was. It was a great bonding experience and I enjoyed watching him use it to pick up various household items once we were done. I would say this is an age appropriate gift and a great alternative to screen time.

Gave it as a gift for an 8 year old boy. This needs to be put together so probably adult involvement needed. If your child really likes to do detailed work and spends time alone - this is the thing for him. My child didn’t know where to start. Don’t even know if they ever used it

Bought this for my 8 year old grandson who loves science. He worked on it for hours. Absolutely loved building it and is now having a great time playing with it. He’s pretending he’s the Terminator.

A lovely afternoon with my son spent building this, and it's now one of my 9 year olds most treasured possessions. It is very fiddly to put together, but the instructions are very clear. I would suggest leaving several hours to put it together. I was impressed with how it held his attention for so long, and he loved when we got something working, such as one of the fingers.
