Yes. Your palm lies on a pad inside the support and keeps the fingers straight out to the first finger joint.

Q: is it for right hand left or both

I use it on my right hand, however there is a thumb hole on both sides of the brace so it can be worn either on your right or left hand.

Q: Is it machine washable?

No, it is not. The washing instructions are as follows: Remove metal splint from inside of brace and close all fasteners prior to washing. Hand wash with mild soap in warm (not hot) water.
