Chair Caning Kit

It only comes with 4 pegs but I didn’t need any more than the 4. Kit was great!

Takes time and patience to get done

First, when I tried to remove a strand of cane from the bundle I ended up with a big mess. My cat loved it, but me - not so much. Second, you need to soak it much longer than the 10-15 min recommended. I only did one strand at a time as you're not supposed to soak overlong and the piece I was working with would dry out quickly and twist and/or break. By the time I got to the second diagonal I soaked each strand for 30 min. That worked much better. Third, find a good tutorial online and watch it in its entirety before you attempt this. It is a very time-consuming project and not comfortable either. Fourth, buy golf tees or additional pegs as only four come with the packet. Happy caning!

These kits, at least the two I received, DO NOT have twelve caning pins as pictured. The two kits I ordered showed up with 4 pins each. They don't specify a number of pins, but picture 12 of them, so I say deceptive advertising... As to the quality of the cane, I can't say as it is unused just now, but it looks OK. If you buy this kit over the others available out there because it pictures a dozen pins, you'll be disappointed. Just sayin'...

This was a great, inexpensive project for me. My parents had an old chair where the seat of it had been busted through and I thought, “why not learn to cane a chair?“ The kit was very straightforward and gave me everything I needed. It took a lot more time than I expected, but isn’t that always the case?

My first attempt, cane quality is terrible, the broken old cane I removed was wider and of better quality. Second buy more pegs, as others have said you do not get what's shown. Third buy a good caning book the instructions are NOT whats shown in the picture although adequate quite frankly lacking, especially when you need to tie off with a new piece of cane.Overall it will test your patience but is very enjoyable.

This kit was great! It had everything I needed to fix an antique chair that I have. I’m very happy with this kit.

I used the kit to recane a 200 year old rocking chair that is a family heirloom. Good supply of cane, I didn't adhere to the included instructions but used an online YouTube presentation.
