This OBD2 scanner works great and has a quality build. Great quality, great price
I use this obd2 scanner all the time for diagnosis on my two vehicles. I recently had to diagnose a SRS light on the dash of my Ford Escape. Turned out to be a seatbelt pretensioner which I never would have thought unless I had a tool that can scan the restraint control module. Having a tool that can go beyond the scope of a basic scantool is awesome considering the cost of this tool is very reasonable. I also used it on my Nissan and it works great on that vehicle as well. It's easy to use and the data is clear and easy to understand. With live data and a helpful library that has TSB for pretty much any vehicle you can think of along with a DTC repair guide. These tools can help you promptly diagnose with pinpoint accuracy with confidence. Has been compatible with every car I have connected to and can do a lot of tricks for a budget scanner. It has a solid build as well so it will survive a shop environment. The materials feel sturdy and add a little weight to it. Feels solid in your hands and can take dings bumps. I'm overall satisfied and also glad I saved some money from not going to the mechanic for every little thing. Hope this review helps.

Comprehensive coverage and working VIN auto-detect.
The TOPDON ArtiDiag500 scanner/analyzer arrived in a large, custom fit envelope assembly from Amazon which was way oversize for the product, but did provide a great deal of mechanical protection via the size and construction of the packaging. I first charged the unit and then actually read and followed the instructions provided (!) to get the unit on my WiFi connection and update the firmware. I just upgraded the Subaru firmware on this go-round as that is my current first concern. Once updated the scanner worked very well, and was intuitive to use for my initial ABS and O2 sensor codes. I bought it on an Amazon day sale and am happy with the price, quality, and ease of use. I anticipate this unit lasting a while

More than expected.
The product price is affordable and worth every penny. My husband used it on my car because the air bag service light was on. I couldn't get the dealership to return my call to check it out, maybe because my care is over 10 years old. The scanner pin pointed the problem through code recognition and showed how to fix it. It's also friendly user. We love it. Would most definitely recommend.

Works as advertised, (updated BMS)
This unit comes with a soft case, a USB-C power cord (to charge the battery), and a cable to connect to the OBD port. On first power up it selects the language and requests internet access. After successfully connecting, via the connection icon, the unit begins to download the latest SW. not that this update takes place without any feedback on status, (no wheel style twirling), so you must just wait about 5 minutes or so for the download to process. During the download, the unit ignores any screen press, so just be patient, and allow it to complete. It will provide feedback after the download is finished. When connecting to the vehicle OBD port, and with ignition on, it requests an automatic identification of make and model. For my 2019 Ford Escape, there were no issues in auto ID. I changed the battery on the car so for this car, I needed to update the battery management system (BMS), and was able to do that successfully with this unit. That one usage paid for itself, rather than having a shop reset that system. So far so good. I hope it will last, but time will tell. Btw 4 stars for no feedback during SW update. On first use, I thought the unit locked-up, so would recommend visual feedback that update is in-progress. Thanks.

READ: 2013 Chevy Steering angle sensor (SAS)
If you are dealing with a steering angle sensor (SAS) on a full size Chevy truck around the 2013 vintage here is what you need to know. My 2013 silverado does not have a SAS calibration option. The new sensor comes with a spring looking pin in it. Do not remove this pin until after installation is complete. I did this, and that was my issue the whole time. This scan tool works awesome but you do not need to calibrate the sensor after. The scan tool is only used to clear the trouble codes from the electronic brake module after replacement. The stabilitrak and traction light will stay on until you use a scan tool to erase the trouble codes in the brake module. My small cheap scanner did not have the ability to read and clear the brake module. This one did just fine. I did email the companies help line about my problems. The got back to me the next day, 3 days in a row with helpful info written in understandable english. I am super impressed with this companies scanner and help line. They got back to me the next day as I emailed them in the middle of the night in their time zone. This scanner was about $150 and I am happy with it. It did read ABS wheels speed sensors on my ride as well. I will probably never find out all the things this scanner can do. But for a technology challenged person like me... I was able to figure it out. The one I got works perfectly. The reviewers that say it wont connect need to check ALL the fuses for a blown one that powers the connector that you plug into. As with any electronic device these days, yes if you drop it hard enough or run it over it certainly will break. Use common sense and this tool will last.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Built Tough, But Too Basic
The TOPDON AD500 looks and feels solid — nice touchscreen, sturdy build — but it’s an entry-level tool at best. Reads basic codes fine, nothing advanced. Setup could be much better as every single auto brand (60+) needs an update, no manual included. Save time/memory and only update the make of the vehicle you are scanning. Tested on a ’13 Grand Cherokee, ’02 Ram Diesel, and two ’23 Wranglers — results were hit or miss. All scanned 20 ft from router. 13 JGC took 5 min total to run vin/diagnostics; 2002 dodge ram 2500 diesel took 32 min; 2023 JKUR would NOT connect to ECU at all, however, oddly enough my neighbors 2023 JKR connected without issue and took 4 minutes to run full diagnostics. ***The AD500 Needs Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ro function. I could not get it to perform a diagnostics scan in field, only at home within 35 ft of router. Upgraded to the TOPDON ArtDiag 900 Lite — that one’s a real diagnostic tool. Fast, wireless, full bi-directional control (injectors, pumps, windows, etc.). FULL SCAN IN FIELD WITHOUT INTERNET. Costs more, but it’s well worth it if you do your own work. Out of 30+ scanners ive purchased/used in my lifetime this is THE BEST Ive seen for the price- comparable to the jeep scanners that are well over 2k. The AD500’s fine for quick code checks especially for people that dont understand the lingo/codes... but if you’re serious about diagnostics, and do your own maintenance, skip it and get the TOPDON ArtDiag 900 Lite. You'll be happy you did. Highly recommend for JEEPERS who do their own work. PICS ARE OF THE 900 LITE. NOT THE AD500.

Quality Tool
Does it read Specific Manufacturer codes like GM that other readers don't? YES! My 2020 Buick is displaying an engine light but my old reader couldn't read the "GM specific code" to diagnose the issue, so I purchased this TOPDON AD500. The device arrived the next day, which was pretty sweet, I did the login setup (create account, confirm information, etc..etc) then hooked it up to wireless internet, Installed the updates with the handy touch screen, downloaded all the FORD, GM, DODGE, JEEP, CHEVROLET updates available since I don't own any other types of vehicles. FYI, this thing can read all codes from almost every manufactured car sold in Canada or so it seems. Plugged it into my 2020 Buick Encore, hit the "diagnose" button on the screen, BAM, Code P146D:00 EVAP Surge Pump code. I'm so friggin stoked this thing works so well. Turns out the code is related to a recall so it's going into GM in 2 days to get the Recall work done. Well worth the $184.00 sale price. That, and it looks like Free updates for life, or at least until the year 2124 when all the updates seem to expire. If you want a code reader that seems like it can read almost every manufacturers car codes...seems to be really good quality, and doesn't just read the "generic codes", this seems to be a good choice. Even had some updates to get European models and out of country models as well, like Rolls Royce and Lamborghini's ....one day. If you have $200 to spend on a code reader that is up to date for 2025, has a bunch of options and can read codes to pretty much whatever you plug it in to...This was a good choice for me.

Excellent Automotive Scanner!
I've had this scanner for four months now and it has been extremely useful. I've used it to check and reset my TPMS system. And just recently I had a transmission code that my cheap ODBII scanner that I keep in the car wouldn't read. When I got home I pulled out the Topdon, hooked it up and ran a system scan. It detected the P0847, directed me to the 3'rd clutch pressure switch, and allowed me to clear the code. I appreciate how it has its own internal battery so I can disconnect it from the car and it will retain and display info. It connects seamlessly to my home wifi and downloads necessary updates for itself and the automakers I select. This was an excellent investment that is miles away from cheap code readers! Very Happy!

Bad customer service and defective product
Expectations were high but the experience was awful... at least for me. My 10 years old scanner is still working fine but a bit outdated ( doesn't have vehicles listed after 2015 ). I was looking for a budget friendly scanner with tpms reset function. The scanner is not a plug and play tool (in my understanding) - it's just an interface ( piece of plastic in your hands) that connects you to the "main server"?... I was fine with that if it would work properly but the unit I received could not engage with my 3 vehicles ( 3 different manufacturers 2015 Toyota, 2009 Chevrolet, 2004 Pontiac) - always on display The " SN status is abnormal " no matter what I would try to access or do. Topdon customer service team is unbelievably hard to communicate with - would answer late and just redirect you to the other team member. They didn't offer any options or ways to fix the issue. Had to return it back an I would never buy another Topdon product - based on how they actually support you if you have issues
