Great kit for beginners and experienced brewers alike!
These kits are a great way to brew legit beer at home. Whether you are new to brewing or are just looking to take a break from all grain these are the kits for you. While you can follow the kit instructions exactly and end up with great beer there are a few things to keep in mind that will help you to get the most out of these kits.SANITATION - This is the most important variable in homebrewing and will be the number one reason for a failed batch. Make sure every surface that comes in contact with the wort is sanitized and isn't contaminated during any part of the brewing process. If you are going to go the "no boil" route make sure to sanitaize the outside of all packaging before opening it and also sanitize the scissors/can opener you use to cut them open.YEAST - The satchet of yeast that his comes with is sufficient but if you pitch a second satchet of yeast you will increase the speed of fermentation which reduce the amount of time that bad things can take hold of your wort. It will also help to create a cleaner tasting beer and help reduce the time it will take to finish fermentation.TEMPERATURE - Temperature is another crucial part of the brewing process. Right when you first pitch the yeast the temperature is especially important as this is when the yeast will be most active. With this particular yeast strain I like to pitch it at 65F and keep the temp under 70F throughout the fermentation process.TIME - This is the hardest part for me. Waiting. You will be tempted to rush the process and even the instructions will tell you that you can bottle/drink within a few weeks of pitching the yeast. Don't! While it is possible to get perfectly good homebrew after a couple of weeks you will be much happier with your finished product if you give it a bit of extra time. Here is my standard timeline and it has served me well.--- Brew then cool as quickly as possible by using an immersion chiller if you've gone one. If not then dunking your brew kettle in an ice bath while stirring can drop it pretty quickly.--- Pitch yeast once wort is at 65F--- Watch for airlock activity and from the time you see active fermentation allow the wort to sit on the yeast for 4-6 weeks. Some people and instructions will say that you don't want to let beer sit on the yeast this long. This isn't really relevant at homebrew volumes and with modern ingredients / yeast strains. Be patient. Let it sit.--- After 4-6 weeks either keg or bottle. If bottling allow another 2-4 weeks to bottle condition. Again, longer is better so if you can wait the full 4 weeks or more then do so.Last thing. Don't panic. You may notice a weird color, smell, residue, foam, chunks, etc. Relax. Wait the proper time and 9 times out of 10 it will pay off.Enjoy!

Quality control was terrible
Both the packet and the container were broken and spilled and there was no yeast packet. Not full of confidence. I ended up throwing the whole thing out. Too bad, I wanted this to work.

I bought this kit because it looked easy since I didn't have to boil anything myself
I'd Brewed Cider. The apple tree was all used up so I decided to switch to beer. I bought this kit because it looked easy since I didn't have to boil anything myself. The Product came out GREAT. Crisp and flavorful!

I would argue that they are very real and offer a fantastic option to get into brewing
There should be a rule about people with no experience with a product posting their opinions on broad subjects. While the initial reviewer believes that prehopped beer kits are not real, I would argue that they are very real and offer a fantastic option to get into brewing. I have used this kit in the Williamswarn machine and it came out great. As I got more familiar with brewing, I used this kit as a base for more complex beers. I added steeping hops, boiled more bittering hops and steeped specialty grains to make a very solid ipa.

prehopped extract kits are cheap, easy, delicious and real beer!
I have never bought this product, but can guarantee you it is real beer, I have bought dozens of other brands of no boil extract "pre-hopped" kits and the WilliamsWarn Irish Red.They are all delicious and come out better than anything u can buy at the store. I gave this 5 starts even though I haven't used this variety, to offset the idiot who never even bought it but felt it necessary to give it 1 star based on absolutely no experience with the product.

Of course it's real beer
Not real beer? Of course it's real beer. "Beer is an alcoholic beverage usually made from malted cereal grain (as barley), flavored with hops, and brewed by slow fermentation" (Merriam-Webster). That's what this makes. I have been brewing a number of years, with experience using hopped extract, unhopped extract, partial mash, BIAB and all-grain brewing. One reviewer's prejudice against hopped extracts should not dissuade you from using them, especially if you’re just starting your brewing adventures. The process can be as simple or as complicated as you wish to make it. The quality of modern hopped extracts in general, and this brand in particular, is quite good. The hopped extracts from WilliamsWarn (I have used 5 different ones) have all been fresh, easily customizable to my own recipes, and produced remarkable beer that is requested by my family and friends. Experts such as Charlie Papazian, Jamil, and others have said that good or bad beer can be made with either extracts (including hopped extracts) or all grain. Brewers using WilliamsWarn extracts have won international competitions against commercial brewers. They don't accept "not real beer" into those competitions. This is a quality product from a family company that cares about what comes out with their name on it.

Beware
I have never used this product, but if you don't boil and if the kit is "pre hopped" it's not going to be real beer, it may taste like beer but it's not.
