Gets beneath the skin of incest. Beautifully written. Insightful. Astounding
I usually shy away from books concerning child molestation. However, this book is so articulate, it travels the depth and complications, between father and daughter. Whilst finding the father, ignorant and selfish( rather understatement-on my part), the book makes you understand how it can happen. NOT understand the abuser, but how the lines and borders can be totally confused for a child. With a mother who is absent-even when she's there. Fantastic read. Also tragic-for the child.

A book to remember.
I read this book quite a few years ago and always remembered it. It isn't an easy read. The corruption of a fundamentally decent child is not an easy subject to write about, let alone to read. Heather, nick named 'Porky' by her school mates, has a hard life with a feckless father, distant mother and unruly brother. When her father becomes much too close in his relationship with his daughter, it ends up poisoning everything in Heather's life. She sees herself as undeserving of love and punishes herself and those around her, including Ali who really loves her. Sharp and sad.

Read this before and loved it so bought a copy to keep. Very well written, but then most of Moggachs' books are.

a sad but enjoyable read
this book is unusual and I found myself getting into the character very quicklythe book focuses on some real life issues and if you are at all interested in what makes people tick and how ones childhood can affect you then this is the book for you

Sensitively written
Not a gripping storyline but a well written sad book that I couldn’t put down.
