Well folks🙂 I have to tell you this has been a nice weed eater that cuts really good and it's LIGHTWEIGHT and it's powerful👍 and at a PRICE that can't be beat...it's way more powerful than some battery and electric weed eaters that I have.. like a Ryobi... And supposedly a commercial grade Ryobi $200 😤.. Anyway 🙂 This electric weed eater is very good and I'll take that PEPSI challenge any day 😀 when comparing it to some other weed eaters PLUS it doesn't USE LINE like other electric weed eaters that I've used.. at least that's been my experience.. This is a KEEPER weed eater from Black & Decker👍....it handles tall grass and even some hedge... though it probably shouldn't be used for hedge but it's TOUGH 😀 and better than any battery weed eater I used especially with the power and cutting... The power alone and convenience of NOT rushing through the job with the battery pack and charging ect imo is worth the cord drag 🙂... and much better than a battery weed eater or other electric weed eaters.. This just cuts better 👍... With MORE power consistently and constantly through the whole job... So in conclusion 🙂 the Black & Decker BESTA510 weed eater in my opinion is a KEEPER and this model has been around for a while which speaks for itself not to mention Black & Decker has been around for years.... This weed eater OVERALL (pound for pound ) is a solid performer with many mostly liking this weed eater and Black & Decker products overall.. Thanks for reading🙂.. When I started using this string trimmer I found that the automatic line feed was feeding line too fast, so fast that much of the time so much of the line was being fed that it was being cut off by the guard cut off blade. This is an unacceptable waste of line. Upon examining the mechanism for the automatic line feed I found that there is a lever assembly that is supposed to swing outward due to increased centrifugal force, thus releasing the spool to feed one increment of line, when the motor speeds up as the line gets too short due to cutting use. In the case of this string trimmer, centrifugal force, which causes the lever to swing out was acting too quickly thus causing the problem. I have modified the design of my line trimmer by placing at 3 mm diameter coil compression spring that is 12 mm long between the arm of the lever and spool housing and gluing it in place with spot of epoxy cement. The spring slightly resists the centrifugal force so that the lever swings at the right time and the right amount. Now the automatic line feed works perfectly. (see image of the modified lever assembly) I also found that the cord retainer did not always prevent accidental disconnection of the extension cord I was using. So I have used different method to prevent disconnection. After I pass an extension cord loop through the handle slot, I pass the cord plug through the loop before I plug the cord into the handle. This is easy to do and works without fail to prevent accidental cord disconnection. ( see image of cord retained in this way) The plug on this extension cord (a replacement plug) has a diameter that is rather large and it had trouble fitting in the recess in the line trimmer handle and I found I had to remove a little plastic from the diameter of the recess in handle to get the plug in easily. I did this with Dremel tool. I note that I have a Black and Decker electric hedge trimmer and its recess is quite large enough for any extension cord plug. I find the BESTA510 string trimmer is easy to use and really cuts well through the toughest grass, foliage and plants that I need to cut down. I also find that the edging wheel that is meant to be used in edging also works very well as a protective guide when trimming up to a wire fence or some other obstacle that would tend to cut off the line. The wheel then prevents getting cutting head too close thus preventing the fence wire from cutting off the end of the line.
