how much water should you put in the cooler

I wouldn’t put anything I wanted to keep cool in one of these coolers unless it was very cool outside. They’re worthless here in south Florida.

i would like to install my own fly rod holder on the longer side of the cooler. What screws are recommended for this surface for a tight fit?

Well I didn't have to add additional rod holders the 4 was sufficient enough; however, If Iwas to add additional i would look at the screws that came with your rod holder and would probably get some a little bit longer to insure your clearing the thickness of the cooler and the Styrofoam thats inside the cooler. I would say there's probably 1 inch to 1 inch 1/2 of Styrofoam inside. Hope this helps.

Is it true that Engel coolers are not covered by their warranty if purchased on Amazon.com?

Mfg warranty rock solid, used them without a problem. You can purchase additional coverage from Amazon, no need for that... great cooler/dry box!
