my go-to writing utensil
i used to be convinced that stationary and stationary tools were merely a matter of cosmetics, and they wouldn't affect the writing experience. that changed when i bought the kuru toga roulette. the pencil itself is pretty light. it has a plastic body, with the only metal externals being the knurled grip, the tip, and the clip (and of course the lead pipe). Everything else is chromed plastic, which actually looks pretty nice. writing with this pencil is very smooth, easy, and convenient. the lead rotation is nice, but because the rotation speed is meant for short choppy strokes, it's a bit too slow for my liking. still, this is a really nice piece to write with. my experience with this pencil is extremely positive. i've used it every single day for the past year and it's been spectacular. the lead pipe has super tight tolerances, so you'll notice a pretty big decrease in lead breakage compared to a throwaway mechanical pencil. it's great for writing, sketching, technical drawings, and pretty much whatever you throw at it. the feel of the pencil itself is super smooth. not too heavy, not too light. since i started using the roulette, i've tried other models like the advance upgrade and the standard kuru toga, but i always come back to this one. it's always in my pencil case, and it's always reliable when i whip it out. if you're looking for an affordable drafting pencil with good construction, or you're looking for a gift for a friend, this pencil will go far.

One of the nicest Mechanical Pencils I've ever used!
The Uni Kuru Toga Roulette is easily one of my favorite mechanical pencils. The rotating lead mechanism keeps the lead consistently sharp and makes writing feel incredibly smooth and precise. I also really love the design and build quality—it feels premium without being overly heavy or bulky. It’s perfect for everyday writing, note-taking, and anyone who enjoys a quality mechanical pencil. Definitely worth the purchase and an easy 5 stars from me!

Discovered on TikTok and Worth the Hype
I first learned about this mechanical pencil through TikTok, and it ended up being one of the few viral products that actually lives up to the hype. This is an ingenious design and an excellent choice for anyone who prefers writing with a consistently sharp point. The auto-rotation mechanism works exactly as advertised, rotating the lead slightly each time you lift the pencil so the sharp edge is always in contact with the paper. It noticeably improves line consistency and reduces the uneven wear you get with standard mechanical pencils. The pen quality and write quality are excellent. Writing feels smooth and controlled, with clean, precise lines that are ideal for note-taking, technical writing, or detailed work. It is very easy to use and does not require any adjustment or learning curve. You simply write as normal and the mechanism works in the background. Build quality is outstanding. The pencil feels solid, well-made, and durable, and it gives the impression that it will last for years. It uses standard 0.5mm lead, which makes refilling simple and inexpensive. The rotating mechanism also helps reduce lead breakage, even when writing with lighter pressure. The only real downside is the eraser, which is very small and not especially practical for frequent use. If you make a lot of corrections, you will want to keep a separate eraser nearby. Overall, this is a thoughtfully engineered pencil that delivers consistent performance and long-term durability.

Mostly as advertised
It works mostly as advertised. The build quality is surprisingly high quality given its price point. The graphite DOES turn as you use it, but still can leave a longer point on one side with normal use [see picture].

The best mechanical pencil I've used — the lead rotation actually works
Bought this half-skeptical about whether the auto-rotation mechanism would make any real difference, and it genuinely does. The lead rotates with every stroke so you always get a consistently fine line instead of the flat, chisel-edged tip you get from a regular mechanical pencil after a few minutes of writing. Once you notice it you can't go back. The Roulette model specifically is worth the step up from the standard Kuru Toga. The metal knurled grip feels premium in hand — substantial weight, excellent traction, no fatigue even during long writing sessions. It sits perfectly balanced and just feels like a serious instrument rather than a disposable tool. 0.5mm is the sweet spot for everyday writing and note-taking, and the line quality stays sharp throughout without having to stop and rotate the pencil manually. The silver body looks clean and understated on a desk. Uni has clearly thought through every detail on this one. If you write a lot by hand and have never tried a Kuru Toga, start here — the Roulette model is the one to get.

The Mechanical Marvel: Uni Kuru Toga Roulette's Flawless Line
TLDR; A Japanese stationery triumph featuring the Kuru Toga auto-rotation engine, which ensures a consistently sharp, cone-shaped tip. The metal knurled grip and premium balance make it a top-tier writing instrument for print writers and students seeking precision. The Uni Kuru Toga Roulette Model Mechanical Pencil in a sleek silver finish is a perfect example of why Japanese stationery is often hailed as unrivaled. I bought this pencil specifically to improve the consistency of my handwriting during long study sessions and note-taking. The core selling point—the patented Kuru Toga Engine—is a marvel of subtle engineering that solves the age-old problem of mechanical pencil lead wearing down into a blunt, chisel-shaped edge. Each time the lead is lifted from the paper, a spring-loaded clutch mechanism twists the lead by a fraction of a degree. This continuous rotation ensures the lead wears down uniformly, maintaining a sharp, conical point. The Roulette model elevates the experience of the base Kuru Toga line with premium features, including a knurled metal grip that gives it a superior feel and front-heavy balance compared to its all-plastic counterparts. A small window in the grip allows you to visibly confirm the rotation mechanism is working—a truly delightful, non-gimmicky feature that demonstrates the pencil's function. Pros Auto Lead Rotation (Kuru Toga Engine): This core feature maintains a perpetually sharp tip, resulting in consistent line width and greatly reduced lead breakage. Premium Build & Grip: The metal knurled grip is comfortable, provides excellent traction, and adds a pleasing, balanced weight to the pencil, shifting the center of gravity forward. Visible Mechanism: The small clear window is a unique and satisfying feature that showcases the pencil's innovative engineering. Precision: The constant sharp point makes it perfect for detailed tasks like drafting, math, and writing small, neat characters (especially for East Asian scripts). Durable: The combination of the metal grip and quality plastic body ensures longevity and a premium feel that justifies its price. Cons "Mushy" Tip Feel: The unique rotation engine introduces a slight vertical play or "squishiness" in the lead tip, which may be distracting for users accustomed to rock-solid drafting pencils. Mechanism Ineffective for Cursive: Since the lead must be lifted from the paper to rotate, writers using continuous cursive styles will not engage the mechanism often enough to maintain the sharpness. Fixed Lead Sleeve: The lead sleeve (pipe) is not retractable, meaning it must be carefully managed to avoid snagging or poking holes in clothing or pencil cases. Tiny Eraser: The integrated eraser is the typical small, refillable size found under the cap, useful only for emergency corrections. Verdict The Uni Kuru Toga Roulette Model is an exceptional writing tool, particularly for those who print, draft, or take extensive notes where precision and consistency are paramount. It is a fantastic bridge between an everyday mechanical pencil and a high-end technical instrument. It is worth the price as a 5-star purchase for the value offered by its innovative, highly effective engine and premium knurled metal grip. It is a must-have for any enthusiast of Japanese stationery who values a clean, uniform line in their daily writing.

Beautiful Pencil with Some Flaws
First off this is an expenisve pencil. Period no doubt about it, it's pricey. But once you get it you'll understand why. Every where I go, and use this people look at me, and say "Woah that's nice." Trust me when I say this "This is a sexy pencil!" It is beyond the best looking mechanical pencil I've ever used. But no matter the look that's still a hefty price. It's justifiable though. The mechanism inside turns as you write. It may sound relatively simple, but it's super handy. Personally I print, so as I write it tends to dull out on one side, so I have to turn my pencil to get a sharp tip to write on. This however completely elimaninates that. The best part though for me is the little circle cut out that actually lets you see the turning. It's pretty darn cool. Their is something that really does p*** me off, and that's the eraser. That thing is barely a centimeter, and truly sucks at being an eraser. I used this two days in math, and it was barely a stub by the third day of school. So if your planning to buy keep an eraser handy. Even though it looks good it has another major body flaw. And that's the clip part. That section of the pencil is plastic, and it will peel/scratch like it did to mine. Apart from that the rest of the pencil is made from metal. It really gives it that high end feel. If you are gonna buy this I can't stress enough that you should go with their led. The Kuro Tuga led it personally for me a lot tougher? It's led, I know, how can it be tough? If you use this led, and press down their is as huge difference from other leds. You'll feel the diference when your writing. I have personally bought their led, and am currently in highschool. I have science, math, french, and English, and have only run though three rolls (currently on the third). Oh and we've reached the end of the secound quarter, so those three rolls lasted me half a school year. And those are prettty writing intensive classes, so I guarantee it'll last you a while. Overall though this is an amazing pencil. It looks great, writes like butter, and it will last you as of write now probably an entire school year of intensive everyday writing. Pricey but defenitily worth the buy. You won't be dissapointed. And if you found this useful in anyway hit that helpful button for me. Have a great day !

Ontvangen
Schrijft fijn, je voelt de Vulpotlood pen wel tussen je fingers. Voelt koel aan, maar dat komt door het materiaal. Ook hier zit een vulling inbegrepen. Zoals geadverteerd ontvangen.

Very Good Material
Exactly what i was looking for; slight heavy compared to plastic pencils (as it is all build up of steel); extremely nice finishing, durable. highly recommended, very good buy
