I'd tried other products to make it fit better. This is the best so far
I have a summer straw Fedora that has always been a little large if I'm currently wearing my hair cut short. I'd tried other products to make it fit better. This is the best so far. The width of the foam is almost 1 inch so it's wider than the others I've tried. Now my straw Fedora fits perfectly.I will admit that getting the backing peeled off to reveal the sticky side was challenging. Here's a tip. Once you measure the length you need, peel the backing down before you cut the foam piece. Then cut the foam piece but leave about a 1 inch long "tail" of the backing rather than cutting it even with the piece of foam liner. That way, you have something to grab and start peeling the next piece you might need.

My hat fits better and stays put in the wind.
I have a cowboy hat that just didn't fit my head right, and the wind would blow it off easily. This hat sizing tape solved my problem. The hat is more comfortable and it stays put. As others have mentioned, to install, fold down the flap just inside the crown of the hat. Put the tape in the inside of the flap (in locations to accommodate the shape of your head - you might have to stack 2 or more layers of tape for larger gaps), and then fold the flap back into place. That way the tape won't move around and you have the smooth side of the leather band against your head.

The product is a good one - does it's job and is easy to install in the hatband. That got it 3 stars. It would have been good enough for 5 stars if it weren't for the incredible frustration [like most everyone else had] of separating the backing from the foam. ARGH! Yes, ultimately the right knife worked. The knife I used was a Swiss army knife with a very sharp, very clean, very thin 2" blade. It was still no cakewalk. I wasted the better part of a foot of the tape with false starts. Most times when I gently, carefully, steadily attempted to insert the blade between the foam and white backing a fine layer of foam remained on the tape. That fine layer made it impossible to pull the two layers apart.I have a suggestion if you decide to buy this product: Don't cut all the sections of the foam and tape that you'll need at the start. Every piece will require another session with the knife. Start with the beginning of the whole roll. Try to get the corners or edge of the beginning separated with your knife. If you end up trashing the the end without separating the layers, cut the end off so you have a new edge to work with. Eventually if the hat gods are kind you'll free a tiny bit of the backing from the foam. Now using your fingernail increase the separation until you can grasp the foam in one hand and the backing in the other. Peel the layers apart til you have the right length. Cut ONLY the foam piece off leaving the tape still attached to the roll. Once you've placed that first piece in your hat it should be pretty easy to start peeling apart the next section you need. When your hat is the right size leave a tape tail on the end of the roll so you have something to grab the next time.

which makes it very difficult if not impossible for me to find hats which fit me since most of them I like are 'one size'
I have a small head, which makes it very difficult if not impossible for me to find hats which fit me since most of them I like are 'one size'. They come down too far on my head, slide around, blow off in the wind, and don't look that great either. In the past I've ordered some pre-sized sizers made of felt which were not adjustable to how much you need, and expensive too. Then I found this tape, it's amazing! As soon as I got it today I put it in the 10 hats I have which are anywhere from a little to big, to a lot too big. Being able to create the perfect amount needed was very easy and my hats all fit and look great!I read several comments it's hard getting the tape off the back, but I didn't have that issue with this trick. I bent back firmly a small amount on one or two corners, and that way it made it a lot easier to separate the tape from the foam. I did 10 hats in a short period of time, super easy!

This stuff really works!
This stuff really works! For those of us who have pea-sized heads and can never find hats that fit (children's are too small and adults are often not accurately sized so you are between sizes), this stuff is a godsend. You just cut a length (or multiple lengths) and either place it over or under the hatband inside to see if the fit is right. then you peel off the backing (I found that scoring the backing with a sharp knife or scissors....razor blade some have suggested) and then picking at the paper carefully to separate it from the adhesive underneath (but being careful to leave the other side of the adhesive attached to the foam underneath) and pressing it firmly on to the hatband (or I put it under hatband because that is how I got the best/most comfortable fit when i was sizing it)...and the hat now fits perfectly.
