Barrister & Mann Latha Shaving Soap - Original Barrister & Mann is the the result of the founder's need to cope with extremely sensitive skin. The founder spent 5 months testing different formulas in the kitchen of a tiny apartment in Boston, researching different ingredients and experimenting with different ratios until a soap that produced a lovely, slick, creamy lather that didn't dry the skin was created. Barrister and Mann was launched in March of 2013 from Boston, Massachussetts. Barrister & Mann later developed alcohol-free aftershaves and a beard oil, and most recently have begun selling alcohol-based aftershave splashes as well. The business has grown and is now a family operation and they continue to expand both their staff and their wonderful product line. Scent: Lavender, Oakmoss & Heliotrope Size: 4 oz Ingredients: Aqua, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Stearate, Potassium Tallowate, Sodium Tallowate, Glyerin, Potassium Cocoate, Sodium Cocoate, Fragrance, Argania spinosa (Argan) Oil, Butyrospermum parkii (Shea) Butter, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Lactate, Tocopherol Acetate Made in USA

Love this soap - Highly recommend!
Overall: Love this shaving soap. This is my second Barrister and Mann - my other soap is the Seville, which is another tallow based soap. It comes in a nice plastic tub that you can use to lather up. Overall recommendation is that I would buy this again. There are lots of great soaps out there - so may not be my immediate next purchase once this tub is done but I would definitely not hesitate to buy this again or recommend that someone else try this. I will admit that I really like tallow based soaps and I really like B&M soaps (from what I have tried).Scent: Loved the scent. Different than the Seville. This was more "manly" floral and vanilla notes, not sweet but clean and deep to my notes.Lather: I'm using Semogue 620 boar brush. It is a relatively newer brush - about 5 shaves on it. I face lather after a shower so my face is nicely hydrated. I always bloom but may not be necessary since this is a rock hard soap. I think this soap lathers great - i get a rich cream lather and after loading up, I easily get three lathers / passes without reloading the brush.Shave: Great slickness which I have found of a tallow based soap (my preference for my skin and hair type over glycerin like Prorasso). I have a sensitive neck area and medium coarse hair that is dense on my face. Meaning I get a nice full beard - no patchy spots. I have used a Merkur 37C slant and a Merkur 33C both with Merkur blades (not great blades but was waiting on my next shipment of Personna Lab blues). I have shaved a total of 4-5 times with the Latha and these DE razors. Even with a mediocre blade that a Merkur blade is, and 3 passes, I am getting BBS shaves. Really impressed with the shave I am getting. A few nicks withe the slant but that was more technique b/c I was rushed a bit.

Incredible soap
Coming from a brand-new DE shaver, this stuff is great! I'd heard excellent things about B&M Latha so I figured I would start my wet shaving journey here. It's very easy to lather this up in a bowl (I'm actually using a bean pot from Goodwill) or right on my face with my RazoRock Plissoft Disruptor Synthetic Shaving Brush .I was expecting a more generic shaving cream scent but this soap smells to me like black licorice, in a good way. The scent lingers on my skin for a few hours after shaving.Latha feels a lot smoother, slicker, and less drying than any canned shave creams/gels I've tried before. My shaves so far have been irritation-free and I am loving each and every one.Overall, I'm really happy I bought this shaving soap and I am definitely going to pick up another in a different scent once this starts to run low. Highly recommended!Edit (6/23/2017): Just wanted to say that I've tried many other soaps/creams since I wrote this review (including Col. Conk, Arko stick, Derby cream, Omega, Van der Hagen) and this is still my favorite shaving soap of all.

Amazing soaps and scents at an affordable price!
You'd be hard pressed to find a better shaving soap than Barrister and Mann. I have bought many, many B&M soaps, to include Glissant formula, old White Label, and Latha. The Latha line is an affordable option for those unwilling or unable to fork out more for the Glissant formula soaps. However, in my experience the quality of Latha is on just about on par with Glissant. Both are exceptional quality.I would urge anyone who hasn't tried B&M to give them a try. Their soaps are top notch performers and the scents are amazing too. Scent is subjective of course so not everyone will like Taiga, but they offer enough different scents that everyone should be able to find one they like. Those who claim B&M doesn't perform well are most likely not lathering it right. Go do a YouTube search and watch it being lathered, and you will see it is an amazing soap with a HUGE following.

Very nice soap. Raises a rich and slippery lather
Very nice soap. Raises a rich and slippery lather. I tried this soap out with a 1959 Gillette Fatboy and a Shark blade and got a very close shave. The lavender fragrance is very pleasant and not overpowering. This soap comes in its own bowl which simplifies usage. You don't have to try to melt it into a scuttle. Overall, a nice soap worthy of a try. The price is certainly right.

Velvet scent for women is THE BEST!!!
This soap smells SO AMAZING. It smells very similar to Lavanila deodorant, which is probably one of my favorite smells ever. If you're a girl or are looking to get a soap for a girl, get her the Velvet scent! I've also tried the Lavanda scent by Barrister and Mann and it was just mediocre.

The best soap I've tried
I've used a bunch of different shave soaps and this is definitely the best. Thick lather, protective and slick. Really helps prevent razor burn and irritation. I'll keep a jar of this on hand at all times from now on.I'd say it's even better than the more expensive Barrister and Mann stuff. Something about the lanolin I think.

Love this soap
It makes my entire bathroom smell awesome. It also lathers up very thick with brush flappity-flap against stubble. Not a single nick yet with Parker 24C double-edge razor using Shark Super Stainless blades.

Excellence and value, perfect.
I bought this along with a razor for my lady hoping the wet-shaving bug would bite her too, but no dice. So, her razor went back, but I kept the soap because, 1) it had been used and couldn't be returned, and 2) it's a truly awesome soap. That being said, it does smell a tad on the feminine side, of course, because it's supposed to. However, past the light floral notes is a nice, fresh burst of vetiver, which I love, that lingers. After my shave, all I smell is clean and all I feel is refreshed. Like other Barrister and Mann soaps, the glide and cushion are superb. Their soaps are quickly becoming my favorites for performance and scent. I have a new one, Latha Oceana, scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out. I think it's going to be my summertime go-to. Can't say enough good things about B&M. Take the plunge, you will not be disappointed.
