Works Well, Eco-Friendly
If you're like me, you're getting sick and tired of multiple repairs on gas trimmers because of the inferior gasoline they make us purchase. I treated the gas, performed tune-ups yearly and still was replacing fuel line and carburetors at an alarming rate. It doesn't matter if it was a $300+ Stihl or a cheapie Ryobi from Homey Depot. After much online research I went with the EGO string trimmer. This new, upgraded model seemed to answer all the issues with their first model. The warranty is impressive, but customer service seems a bit hit & miss like most companies today. There are 2 types of shafts, split and straight. There are NO attachments for this trimmer. So, unless space is a concern, there is no need for a split shaft as the power cable runs the length of the shaft. Two battery options are offered, 2.0Ah and 2.5Ah. The price difference, if any, is around $20. I purchased the 2.5Ah trimmer kit for the same price. More power! My trimming needs are the backyard fence, house, sidewalk, driveway, and a few trees. Just normal suburban trimming. No rainforest or rural brush here.**SET-UP** Quite easy. Charge the battery. Attach handle and brush/line guard. Make sure the handle is adjusted to your height. I tightened the screws just enough for tension, then walked the fence line a bit to determine the best position for me.**TRIMMING** Again, quite easy. Depress the safety, then engage the power. It does take a second to fully power up, but I got used to the lull. The dual line made quick work of the grass/weeds along the fence line. It took me a bit to get used to the 'swing of things' since I was accustomed to my Stihl trimmer for the past 3 seasons. The bump head works well, but the trimmer needs to be at full speed.**EDGING** No fuel means I can actually turn this trimmer is all sorts of directions without fuel leaks or engine flooding. I was able to edge my driveway and sidewalk easily without having to break out my dedicated edger.**BATTERY** One full charge was all I needed for my trimming/edging needs. My best estimate for time use would be 35 minutes. Remember that when the trimmer is powered down, it's actually off, unlike a gas trimmer which keeps running. When edging I was at full power, but I could mostly use 3/4 power with good results. I didn't test the recharge time.**COMMENTS** This trimmer works as intended. It's quiet and eco-friendly. For standard to medium size suburban lots this trimmer is ideal. It's not made for large rural/country applications unless you want to purchase more batteries (huge money). The only quibble is the size of the handle. It could have been a tad larger for big glove hands.

Buyer beware
Got mine delivered on a Thursday afternoon charged the battery according to instructions and tried to use it Saturday morning. It ran out of juice after 20 minutes!Pro - good amount of power and it seemed like it could cut through thick weeds with easeCon - no real battery lifeIf you’ve got a postage stamp of a yard that you trim once a year this overpriced trimmer is for you... but if your like most of us there’s just not enough run time....

A huge improvement over our old gas-powered trimmer
Our yard is 2/3 of an acre and not exactly park-like; there is no lawn to mow (the rabbits eat it all); there's a slope down to a lower meadow (into which the rabbits have burrowed); and there are many fast-growing weeds (which the rabbits don't like to eat) that blow in from elsewhere. The only way to manage this piece of land is with a string trimmer. Right as the weeds were reaching super-size, the carburetor on our old gas-powered trimmer died. It had been a good machine for 10 years, but it was a monster: really loud, heavy, odorous, and finicky. The EGO Power+ came on Thursday. It was packed well. It was very easy to assemble. The directions are easy to follow. This is now Saturday, and my husband has happily tamed the yard. This was a spectacularly good choice for our needs.Updates: we've now been using it for about two weeks. It's even better than we first thought. One thing we found is that it kicks up a lot of dust and particles, so wear a face mask unless you like coughing stuff up afterwards.PROS:It is lightweight. No more sore shoulders. It is quiet - like, really quiet. My husband took off his ear protection after 10 minutes. I wish all lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and weed whackers were this quiet. Summer weekends would be so much nicer in the neighborhood. It is powerful, more powerful than the smelly gas trimmer. It cut through a stand of tall Colorado thistles easily. There's an adjustable handle on the long shaft. My husband was worried that it would be too long for him (he's 5'8") but he's found that the longer shaft makes it much easier to trim the slope than our previous trimmer. The battery runs out after about 45 minutes. This is great! That means my husband has to come in from the sun and rest for while the battery re-charges.No more runs to the store to get gas. The only smell is the smell of grass. It takes less than five minutes to replace the string on the spool!CONS:I guess if you are a commercial landscaper this would not be the tool for you, because of the battery runtime. Backup batteries are pricey. On the other hand this tool is so quiet that your customers will surely appreciate it.The trimmer guard favors right-handed people.I can't think of anything else. Thanks to everyone who took the time to write a review for this product. It helped us make the decision to purchase it, and we couldn't be happier.

My first EGO lemon
After the string ran out the first time, I was never able to use this product again. Part of it broke, and the instructions said not to use it if anything was even cracked. I bought and tried to install replacement parts, but nothing matched the pictures or descriptions in the instructions. Pieces of the replacement parts were not included in the package, so it was impossible to do the replacements. I talked to the manufacturer, who promised to check out my issues and call me back. They never called back. I have been very happy with my EGO Power Plus mower and blower, but this trimmer has been a nightmare. Part of the problem is buying through Amazon rather than a local vendor (Home Depot) so that I could talk to a human being. I will not make this mistake again.
