There is a molded rubber eye aperture that is removable but not adjustable. It is not a cup per se, it's convex or sort of domed with a peephole aperture.

how is the battery installed?

There's no battery in the monocular itself... it's all manual. If you have the full kit, the special close-up attachment (looks like an inverted eye cup) has a coin-opened hatch for a pair of CR2032 coin cells (not included) to power the 2 illuminator LEDs.

Will this mate correctly with an iPhone 11s

The phone mount is generic. But it's fussy getting it on my Pixel 5.
