Get a Dell for a Dell
I needed a new charger for my Dell laptop, originally bought an off brand. Big mistake! Almost sparked a fire, now I bought 2 Dell chargers for the same Dell laptop. Buy Dell for Dell. Learned my lesson!

Appears to be MS Compliant and IT WORKS!
A little background is required, so please stay with me. It appears that in one of the Windows updates within the last year imposed a battery / power supply driver that looks for an "MS Compliant" AC/DC power source to be connected to the computer; in this case a Dell 7240 laptop. If the power supply is not recognized, the battery will not be charged. Some users have played with the driver set to rectify the problem and performed other work-arounds with varying degrees of success.My laptop came from Tiger Direct with an after-market power supply that worked fine for four+ years until the Win update rendered my system inoperable.After trying several remedies, I finally decided to try to find a new power supply that Windows would recognize and allow the battery to charge. Although this unit did not specifically claim MS Compliance, it appeared to be a genuine Dell accessory and should play with Windows.I plugged it in and to my immense pleasure, the battery charge indicator lit up. I have not gone through any charge/discharge cycles yet but have hopes that it will continue to work properly.The unit is smaller than the original OEM P/S, so that's a plus. As someone else noted, the computer connector has a very bright LED indicator ring around the plug. This is little over the top, but I'll take it as it works and has restored my computer to operational status.

Compact and smart looking
Purchased several to redistribute from our IT department, it’s tested perfectly with the Dell Latitude E7440 Ultrabook. I’ve encounter no under wattage warnings like one might get using a generic replacement. This one is DELL branded, and is actually nicer than the original power supplies which shipped with the laptops when new. A collar at the end of the cable glows blue when plugged in. Very nice
