Fits right out of the box. Merrell and Amazon rock!
I have wide feet ( 4E-6E ) and a left foot that is larger than the right. Hence buying shoes has been very difficult throughout my entire life. I can use a stretcher and create an adequate fit but still have some issues. These wonderful shoes fit right out of the box. No issues. No stretching, no blisters, nothing. Incredible comfort snuggling my feet with both pillow and snug support comfort. Granted I had to buy a shoe perhaps 1 1/2 sizes larger (10 to 11.5) to avoid the bumping of my large toe against the front. I have enough toe wiggle room. My heels do not move up and down and the shoe cradles my feet. Other features that were a must and provided by Merrell I must have Vibram soles. These soles are great on both smooth and rough terrain griping, absorbing and not feeling rough stone. Others do not come wide and have Vibram. The price was excellent. I am VERY HAPPY with these shoes and Merrell. Very easy purchase through Amazon as I have tried in the past to buy these shoes in smaller sizes. Return policy makes Amazon similar to going to a brick and mortar shop.

Great all-purpose shoes!
I bought these shoes because I love the Merrell Moab shoe line. This is my third pair of these bad boys and I intend to continue purchasing these shoes in the future. I usually buy the ventilators, but over time they vent too much and during the cold winters where I live they can be too cold for comfort. These seem to have more insulation and are warmer. I like this line of shoe because it provides a wide range of comfort during many activities. I do a lot of walking and hiking and am on my feet constantly, and these shoes have always been extremely comfortable and versatile. I will say that the tread is not always the best for hiking and it does tend to slip a lot more than some nice cross trainers, but the sole support is perfect for high activity people. These shoes have a life span of about 6 to 8 months when used heavily. I find that the first thing to go is the plastic inside of the heel where it will start to break through the cloth material and scrape at your achilles. I usually just replace them at that point. As far as the integrity of the shoe, it holds its level of comfort and support perfectly until the day you get rid of it. I can't recommend these enough. They are a great all around shoe that maintains comfort and support whether you're cruising sidewalks or rock scrambles.

Excellent shoes but lose their comfort over time
I just bought my second pair of these shoes. Definitely the best hiking boots I have ever owned. Usually most boots are too heavy or uncomfortable, so for years I just wore sneakers instead. These are a great hybrid, with the stability & grip of a hiking boot and comfort of a running shoe. And after years of hiking in all sorts of conditions, I can attest that they are definitely waterproof up to the laces. I've been pleasantly surprised by that, every time I step in a pool of water and come out dry. The only con, and I'm not sure if this is justified, is that they do seem to lose their comfort over time. Granted, I had my last pair for at least 5 years, but I only wore them for a total of a couple weeks a year, I doubt I wore them for a total 365 days. They started to feel like uncomfortable boots again and I looked forward to taking them off after a hike. I eventually wore a hole in the heel and justified replacing them. Got the same pair of course, and wow, what a difference! Back to feeling like the comfortable shoes I remembered. Now to see how many hundreds of miles it will take to wear them down again. Having said that I obviously love this shoe since I immediately bought the same pair again, and will do the same when these inevitably wear out. PROS: - Very comfortable when new. - Excellent grip. - Really is waterproof (up to the laces) CONS: - Feels a little heavy after a long day of hiking. - Loses its comfort over time, faster than I would expect.

A word on sizing
Update 3: Because my review was rather long, I decided to include this update up top and include a summary of the important points. First, I'm loving this shoe and think it's nearly perfect. My only major complaint is that the laces won't stay tied for long and I have to constantly tighten them. I know how to properly tie laces, but they're just so thick that they easily loosen. This causes me to tie them tighter, which not only doesn't help much, but also hurts. Buying a new pair of laces is a simple, inexpensive fix, but a seemingly unnecessary one for such an expensive shoe. Having to constantly retie the laces is just extremely annoying. Also note that these run about a half size small, so it would be wise to order a half size larger then you normally wear (even if you normally size down one-half with Merrell shoes, like I often do.) ----(original review)---- These are my first pair of Moab's and I think I'll love them. They contour to your feet and the vibram sole is extremely comfortable for a hiking shoe. However, I do worry that the sole is a little too mushy, and will either tear up too quickly and/or not offer the rigidity a good hiking shoe needs. My only other complaints are that I wish they had a stiffer mid-sole, with better arch support, and I hate those stupid pull tabs that help you get them on, because I never use them and my pant legs always catch on them. Merrell is one of a few nice brands where my foot always seems to fall in between sizes. I normally wear a size 11M in an athletic shoe, but typically wear a 10.5M with Merrells. Either size usually works, but I've never regretted going with the smaller size with Merrell's: I don't know if they stretch or if I just get used to them, but I've only regretted going with the larger size, because it just feels too big. Typical to the brand, my foot seems to fall between sizes with the Moab. I ordered 2 sizes to get the right fit and am contemplating which to keep. My toes almost touch with the smaller size, which would usually lead me to discard them immediately. However, they're still quite comfortable and they don't actually feel too tight, as long as they don't shrink, instead of stretch (I've had this problem with Teva's, but never with Merrell's, although I've heard from others who have.) The footbed does seem slightly small, but it seems slightly large with the larger size. The larger size feels too loose and I can feel my foot sliding around in it. I really like my shoes to fit well and this is especially true for hiking shoes, since I'll be using them vigorously. I think either size will be okay, but I'm leaning to the smaller size, and the more I wear it, the more comfortable it's becoming (remember that I've never regretted going with the smaller size in Merrell's.) My biggest concern is that they'll shrink or that I'll find them too small with heavy socks, although they seem okay with heavy socks now. IMPORTANT: The reviews for these shoes indicate that they run a little small, so I sized up one-half and purchased sizes 11M and 11.5M (I normally wear a 10.5-11M with Merrell's, as mentioned previously.). So, when I talk about the smaller size being a little too tight, it's actually a half size larger then I normally wear with Merrell's and the same size I normally wear in most other athletic shoes (for reference, I wear an 11 with Nike and an 11.5 with the recently re-sized New Balance shoe.) In other words, these run small for Merrells and are probably small for most athletic shoe brands. I'd recommend ordering at least a half size up from your normal Merrell size and maybe even a half size up from your normal athletic shoe size, which would mean a full size up from your Merrell size. Although I typically wear a 10.5M in Merrell's, there's no way that size would have worked with the Moab and it's mainly due to the length being shorter. Update: I changed my mind and decided to go with the larger size, instead. The smaller one was just too tight with heavy socks, which I'll be wearing a lot, since I'll only wear them during colder months. Also, the footbed in the larger size just feels/fits better, and after tightening the laces, they no longer feel so loose. I've also read that these can get hot, which doesn't concern me much, since I'll be wearing them during colder months, but a larger size might help them breathe better. In sizing, I went with a half size larger then I wear in most shoes and a full size larger then what I normally wear in Merrells. Update 2: This a minor complaint, but the laces don't stay tied, so I have to constantly tighten them. I'll probably either buy a new pair of laces or find another way to lace them to keep them tied. I know how to properly tie a lace, so that the knots work against one another, so it's not that. Update 3: I recently purchased a pair of Moab Ventilators and went with my normal size (i.e. a half size smaller then these.) It may just be me, but the Ventilator felt larger then the Waterproof Moab's. The Waterproof Moab's felt a little big in size 11.5, and while the Ventilator fells a little cramped in an 11, I think they'll be fine. This is okay, because I won't be wearing heavy socks with the Ventilators.

Best Walking Shoe
Perfect fit, fits as it should, size markings are accurate, water proof, comfortable, attractive, durable. I am 65 years of age and can only walk now. No running. Very demanding about my shoes. Old Army troop who needs to protect my feet. I walk for 60 minutes at a stretch with complete comfort. Dry in the rain. Not too hot or too cold. Fabric breathes adequately. Wear with denims or khakis for casual wear. I have two pair now. Appears that this shoe will be difficult to wear out.

The waterproof feature has been useful in rain and while walking in wetlands areas
The pair I purchased are to replace a previous pair. Besides casual wear, I wear these to work, where I am on my feet for most of an 8 hour day, on a concrete floor. This is the only shoe I've tried that will allow me to complete my workday without leg or back aches. I've also used these for light day hiking and walking when I travel. The waterproof feature has been useful in rain and while walking in wetlands areas. Good shoe - fits correctly (for me, anyway) - good support, but flexible in the forefoot - good heel cup for retention. The only complaint I have is (as others have reported) that the laces will not stay tied in a normal single bow knot. Not a biggie - I just do a double knot, crossing the lace loops after the first tie. Works great.

Waterproof hiker, great support, Perfect choice!
Exactly what I was looking for! These shoes offer substantial arch and foot support, they do not let your foot wiggle around on rocky tough terrain. Hiking in the Colorado mtns is tough on feet and shoes. I love these as they offer rigid foot protection and their waterproof capability is awesome for the 2 inch snowfall that we get a lot, then it melts! I have snow boots but do not need them unless we get massive snows, these are so perfect for all the in between times. The only negative comment I have is that it seems the laces could be a couple inches longer as it it difficult to tie a double knot and the laces often come untied. I could have a higher arch than normal, so you may not have this problem. I know I can purchase new, longer laces, but after you just buy a pair of $100+ shoes, you don't just want to go out and do that! Be that as it may I would definitely go for this choice again. No regrets, Great shoe.

I bought an older pair back 2010 when it still had the goretex liner and it was one the best hiking shoe I ever owned
I recently got this newer pair to wear for a 20 mile hike carrying about a 30 pound pack. I bought an older pair back 2010 when it still had the goretex liner and it was one the best hiking shoe I ever owned, so I thought I buy a newer updated pair. Unfortunately, this updated pair runs one size too small and it maybe water proof still but it visually doesnโt have the goretex liner on the inner side of the shoe. Because it was one size too small it caused me to have blisters on both my feet. Also, because itโs water proof, which is a pro, it did not air out my feet, which is a con. shoe is also on the heavy side, like what many said. After hiking about 5 miles, my socks was filled with moisture. what does this mean, tight shoes + moisture = friction on your feet, which is bad. Donโt get me wrong, Iโm still a fan of Merrell, I just do not recommend this updated model. If you do, get one size bigger and use a lot of dry foot powder to keep moisture out. Remember, if water canโt get in, that means that sweat and moisture canโt get out (just like what many reviewers stated). I left my pair behind and completed the hike in sandals, just my experience, donโt make it yours. This shoe is rugged and bulletproof.
