Q: Is this suitable fgor an eight year old

Yes just the right size for my 8 year old grandson & 6.5 year old granddaughter.

Q: Is this perfect size for an adult?

Size in a drum is not about what is appropriate for adults, or kids. As you know, kids will pound on anything big or small. Size is about the tonal range of the drum. Smaller gets you more trebly sounding more percussive rhythms at the center, while bigger gets you more of a boomy more sustained bass at the center. Sounds at the rim may be more similar. This particular drum provides a very percussive upper range if used in a mixed drum circle for instance. As inexpensive as it is, it actually sounds very good--just different--compared to my other bigger, more expensive djembes. This one you can hold equally upright between your knees, or horizontal across your leg facing forward. So its both versatile and easy to carry around. The thing with djembes, if you get into it, you're going to want to get more of them anyway.

Q: Does it have a strap to wear the drum

A loop is there to carry the drum only (as shown). There is no strap to wear it while playing, although that would be a difficult way to play anyway. These drums are played with your hands and are best when stable, not swinging or moving around. They're best played sitting with the drum either between your knees or horizontal on your lap under your arm.
