I truly appreciate authors like Ian Gardner who bring historical accounts alive in script ...
Ian has captured the essence of combat by giving the reader historical accounts from AAR's, soldier's combat journals, and face to face interviews that tells the story of the men of the 3rd Battalion 506th PIR 101st Airborne. As a WW 2 historian that teaches about this colossal event of world history, I truly appreciate authors like Ian Gardner who bring historical accounts alive in script so the reader can grasp the intensity of mortal combat and the effects it has on those experiencing it first hand. Truly a great read for historians, history buffs and even the individual who may occasionally want to read about WW 2. Great job Ian and thank you for your hard work to tell this particular story of the WW 2 combat soldier.

One of the very best books ever written on the Battle of Bastogne
One of the very best books ever written on the Battle of Bastogne. This includes the lead up to the actual battle and the battle itself. It also has a comprehensive story covering the 3rd Battalion, 506th P.I.R. 101st Airborne Division in their last battles of the war. The book follows the unit until the cessation of WWII and a short aftermath of many of the main character's lives after the war.
