Exceeded my expectations
Hindi-English Bilingual Visual Dictionary really exceeded my expectations. It's an excellent size for carrying around, every word has a picture, the pictures are great and there are tons of them. Organization is excellent. I only wish is that BVD would print Gujarati-English Bilingual Visual Dictionary.

Nice book
Imagine being a first grader, I experience the same kind of feelings. Not a bad one, no. Just the amusement at the quality of the pictures provided and accompanying words.

Missing Gender Designation
Hindi, like Spanish, classify nouns as being either masculine or feminine. Such a distinction is important when pairing the noun with the appropriate adjective. The Spanish version of the DK dictionary includes the "m"/"f" distinction, but the Hindi version does not. So the student has to find ANOTHER dictionary to find out if the noun is masculine or feminine. Not very helpful. If you are looking to learn helpful phrases, you'll be better served looking elsewhere. There are only 2 pages of phrases-- in the back of the book.

This would be 5 starts BUT.....
This is a great visual dictionary. I have never seen anything quite like it with so much detail. There are more words in here in Hindi than I would ever care to know. Some words I don't even know in my own language. There is practically everything under the sun that you can think of from something as simple as boy to as technical as particular structures, bones, and systems of the body for instance. HOWEVER, the downfall to the dictionary and the reason I did not give it 5 stars is the lack of any cultural terms. Everything is very westernized as another reviewer has said. When you look under women's clothing its all westernized. There is no inclusion of the word for saaRii for instance that women traditonally wear. Also, another thing that kind of takes away from the feel of the book is the generic photographs. They are very colorful and detailed, however none of them include people from India. I think it would improve the book if they used cultural references and showed actual places/people in India for the visual aid. This would make it much more exciting for the learner. All and all though what a great book with SO MANY WORDS you can learn!!!

Great dictionary, small size.
So, I already owned the ebook of this book but I wanted a physical so I could push myself to actually use it more often as I SLOWLY learn Hindi. I would say I totally regret this but and prefer the ebook. The physical copy is the size of my palm. Which may be convenient for me it’s just not my personal preference. The words are so tiny and I already wear reading glasses. Nonetheless nothing is wrong with actually dictionary but I’m shocked I paid $17 for a pocket size dictionary.
