Super useful saw for flush cuts and more!!
This little saw is just great. I know it's supposed to be for flush cutting dowels or protruding pins and it is great at that, but is so versatile for other tasks too. The plate is very thin and flexible and has a fine and coarse cut side. Both sides of the plate cut on the pull stroke and with no set it has a very thin kerf. As said, with no set on the teeth the saw does cut flush without damaging or marring the adjacent surfaces. It's also outstanding for doing quick precise cuts on trim pieces, quarter round, or other fine detail work. In fact, this would make a great hobby saw if you're into balsa or basswood for something like RC planes or other scale modeling. The cut, like most Japanese saws, is highly efficient and leaves behind a smooth surface especially on the fine side of the plate. I use it for all kinds of odd jobs around the house. My dad was so impressed by it that I bought one for him as well. For the price and utility, everyone should have one of these saws around the house even if you're not a woodworker.

This saw exceeded my expectations!
I have played Fiddle for 27 years (started at age 44) and I like to repair / restore old violins as a hobby and put them back into playing condition> I recently had an old Stainer violin I was restoring and I had to fit new pegs to the pegbox. I spotted this saw and wanted to try one - IT PERFORMED GREAT! This saw has no "set" to the teeth and it cuts on the pull stroke. The blade is flexible. In fitting the individual pegs, I was able to easily cut the end of the Ebony peg that protrudes through the peg box off flush with the outside surface of the peg box. One edge of the say has fine teeth and the other side somewhat larger teeth. I could easily keep the blade flat against the side of the peg box and with approximately 5 pull strokes, cut the end of the peg flush with the side of the pegbox, leaving a glass smooth surface on the end of the Ebony peg. I could then easily proceed to put the proper slight convex curve on the and of the peg using extra fine grit sandpaper on a flat surface to properly complete the peg fitting process. I was a cabinetmaker and finish carpenter by trade, and I can easily see how this saw could be used for a variety of applications - I wish I had had one years ago when I was doing that work for a living. An excellent product, an excellent value for the money and a must have on the bench if you do fine woodworking or Luthier work. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

A finely made saw.
The blade is as flexible as it should be for cutting protruding dowels. The saw teeth are fine and sharp for a perfect flush cut. Great Tool!!

Nice Saw.
This is a nice little saw. It is tiny with a very thin blade, sharp teeth and works just as it should. Flush cutting without marring the finished product was a breeze. I'd worry if a user were to try push cutting with it as the blade could be easily bent. But as a pull saw it's great.

You might need this saw
If you've never used a Japanese-style pull-saw before, here's a good place to start. It's where I started, and this saw and two other, similar saws (larger, for larger sawing jobs) are now essential tools in my workshop. This saw is somewhat delicate; the blade is very thin, there's no "set," and it can't be resharpened. And that's okay -- it's a wonderful saw that does things other saws can't do.

Excelleng pull-saw: Perfect for Violin-Makers Who Must Cut Very Thin, delicate Maple Rib Material.
Inexpensive Japanese pull-saw that cuts very thin wood (violin maple 1.2 mm thick rib material). Clean cuts, no splitting. Exceptonally large number of teeth do the job.

Wow! Amazing tool.
This little tool is one of the BEST woodworking tools I've ever gotten. You can't beat the price. It is extremely versatile, and it's flexibility allows you to saw in many different types of ways. It works as a great chisel and even sanding. It's very easy to use and has cut through very thick wood. Highly recommend!

Sharp, Smooth, Straight. That spells "SAW."
That doesn't really spell saw. But this saw is awesome for all those things, and for surface flush-cuts too. I use it for rough shaping stringed instruments and it works great; the review AI asked me to rate "stretch," which I declined to do, as I have not stretched this saw and don't recommend anyone else does either; instead, I will rate it on "flexibilty," and give it five stars. There is a bit of a learning curve (puns!), but this saw is incredibly sharp and useful and has already paid for itself in time saved filing and sanding. Stuff all your stockings with saws!

This hands down the best saw in my tool set. As a first time user of this tool, and looking at some less positive reviews highlighting fragility, I can only say: see a couple of videos of true master craftsmen using it. This is not a saw that operates based on strength. You just need to fet a piece of wood next to the cut to drive it and then take your time and let it do its magic. I apply less strength to it than when I am cutting bread. No strain and perfect end result.

I have no complaints about this saw. I have used both sides, and it cuts well. The flex is good, so you can cut flush. There are few if any scratched around where I cut. This being said, the unfinished handle, while functional, give it a bit of a feeling of a cheaply made product, but so far it does not seem to be.
