What's the stake for?

You use the rod/stake to shove it under the log to get the cable around the log. Works great, even is angled to keep it from digging in the ground

what is the thickness of the end rings?

Give or take another 3/10 of an inch...I would measure it but it is in for swaying the end where probe stake attaches to the end ring... log being pulled rolled and caught behind another tree...tractor stronger than sewage !

I know the mac pulling force but what is the max breaking strength?

I have a pretty large oak tree. Will this thing handle a 30" 10 foot log?
