what a great intro to an important topic
A perfect blend of science and history the story begins billions of years ago with the Earth's first atmosphere, a mix of swirling poisonous gases. The story moves on to how clouds are formed, how life in the oceans began, how plants started to flourish and how mammals and humans evolved. The book then moves on to how the climate cycles have changed over the years and what climate change means for our planet as the temperatures rise, the glaciers melt, hurricanes and floods become more frequent. Children will learn about the impact on habitats causing animals and humans to migrate to safer areas where growing and finding food may result in a better chance of success. It also speaks to climate changes impact on forests, oceans, pollution in the air we breathe and the dangers of fossil fuels as well as an introduction to green energy. The book concludes with a 2-page glossary of pertinent terms. I thought the book was very well done and the illustrations were great as well as to make for lively discussion.A great book and topic for parents to discuss with children or for teachers to discuss in their classrooms. I was impressed that this is a series book with other interesting topics like space, inventions etc.Targeted for children in Grades 2 thru 5. Both of the above books would make nice additions to personal collections or library shelves.

Summary of Earth’s climate from the beginning
This book is related to my job, so I got it even though I assumed it would be a little too old for my 4-yr old. However, he has asked me to read it multiple times. He cried about the meteor which killed off almost all life in Earth saying “Dinosaurs are my favorite animal” but he still wanted me to keep reading. He likes the speech bubbles and really liked the page about all the cows burping and farting. I tried to explain things in a little simpler terms as I read this book to him, like how he breathes out Carbon Dioxide and breathes in Oxygen and green plants and seaweed do the opposite. This is a pretty good book to introduce the topic of climate change to kids. There are some places where the text could stand out better from the background. Overall, the book has good printing quality and on a nice thick paper stock. It has a slipcover which is the same design as the glossy hardcover under it. This is a larger book which is nice for the pictures but may not fit on shelves as easily.

A tough task very well done.
This book is really impressive. This is such a complex, and scary topic, even for adults, so I was nervous about how it would be handled in an introduction for children. When I was a child in the late eighties, there was a lot of talk about environmental issues, and frankly, it was nightmare inducing for me . I wanted my children to be aware of the issues and walk away more inspired than traumatized, and I can gladly say, this book captures the right balance. We are taken on a broad overview of the Earth's physical history before humans, and then shown more detail about the ways we have been able to alter the environment for the worse (without ignoring the tradeoffs for progress) in the short time we've been on the planet. It is all presented surprisingly straightforwardly, but without ignoring nuance.Just at the point where it could get too dark near the middle pages, the book begins to incorporate things we can do as individuals and as a society to improve the situation, until it eventually transitions into very hopeful pages. It's a deft shift in tone that neither shys away from the harsh reality, nor delves into hopelessness. The illustrations throughout are very cool. Very colorful, mostly pencil drawings with some additional collage elements.I highly recommend this book for any parent wishing to get their children started on the path to saving the Earth!
