Inspirational and a fun and easy read
This book, like all of Donnelly's books, is full of fantastic advice and insights, but it doesn't read like a dry, self-help book. It's a creative story that moves quickly and contains lots of great content. I totally recommend it

great read
I really enjoyed this book. As an athlete, little league coach, and parent of an athlete, this was helpful. I was a headcase when I played softball in highschool and want to save my kid from the same frustrations. Hopefully the things I learned here can help.

Is It Worth It? (Reading Edition)
This book is a nice, quick read. Ill be honest and say I didn't like every meaning in the book but think it's a nice book overall.I really did like that the author used legendary figures to bring home the points the author was trying to make. Puts an interesting spin on a book.I agree that you cannot control the outcome of a situation but you can control your actions and mindset. Further chapters seemed to undo that philosophy though, when the author starts stating to visualize your future. It seems a bit contradictory to say not to focus on the past or future then in later chapters tell you to visualize your future.Another section that was rather eh..ish..was the section dealing wIth faIth. I do not mind so much the topic of Christianity. I actually think most religions are interesting. I absolutely hate it, when it's mentioned that people think they do their best but aren't really, that's a very subjective thing to say and it can't really be said truthfully unless you are that person. Also the thinking that If you don't achieve your dream God has other plans for you..Maybe but I tend to think that life is life. Hardwork and determination doesn't always pay off. Just take a look at history, I'm pretty sure there were some slaves who thought they would work hard and buy they're freedom. For some it worked but for the mass majority???No.I'm still on the fence about the section dealing wIth faIth or fear. I thought the coaches realistic stance on winning or losing based on past evidence was spot on. But I also understand every part of the decision making process can't be made in fear. I think faith is warranty but a healthy dose of reality isn't bad eIther. The author also states that grit is not something you are born wIth but can be cultivated. After reading a myriad of studies dealing wIth personality. I think some people are born wIth grit. That's not too say it can't be cultivated because I truly think it can. It's too say grit may be a bit more natural for some. The premise still stands on solid ground, do your best in each moment. Truly is one of those golden nuggets of advice that tends to get lost because we are so focused on the past or future. Overall I did enjoy this book, simply because we may not achieve our dreams, but society and the individual is benefited by everyone becoming the best version of themselves. So is it worth it? At a price point of 7.99 yes. Is this book revolutionary reading? Not in today's age. Would I reread this work? YES.

GREAT READ!!
I read this book to my nine year old son who is a sports fanatic. We read everything night before bed and he begged me to keep reading every single night. I love the lessons about mental toughness, positivity, dreaming big, and choosing faith over fear. We are hooked on the sports for the soul series and plan to read all the books in the series. We just ordered Old School Grit. This would make a great gift for a sports-loving kid!

The best book I've read in years! Totally inspiring and well worth the read.
Here's a book you don't expect to be so thrilled and inspired while reading.I personally felt it calling me back to it during the time I'd put it down in between chapters. It is a very well written story mixed with intrigue and fantasy that grips the reader while imparting important concepts a person needs to reach for goals. In the story of Chris McNeely you easily relate to the struggles he faced in leading his personal life and his football teams.I personally am not a consistent fan of football but that is immaterial. The book is not about football as much as it is about the drama of the game and the mindset of the players - and how a good coach can lead a mediocre team to a championship. Very important stuff. I loved it.

A great read, and highly recommended!
Darrin Donnelly's book is a great read! A novel, Mr. Donnelly tells the story of a football coach who is trying to navigate his own shortcomings and, at the same time, motivate his players. He adopts the warrior mentality, both for himself (of which he must remind himself regularly) and his players - to fight through adversity to achieve excellence. This book has a different focus of purpose than mine, "On Warriorship, A Guide For Your Warrior Path," (a primer on the subject of warriorship), but for the coach or the athlete (of any sport) is a great companion book to "On Warriorship." I also bought a copy of Mr. Donnelly's book for a friend of mine who coaches football, and I highly recommend this work!

You WON’T be disappointed if you want wisdom and inspiration.
Wonderful book. It’s an easy read (no need to run to the dictionary for understanding). But the imparted wisdom Is profound.I talked a good friend into ordering the book. He did it begrudgingly.., Now he’s telling me that he’s really going to try to implement what he’s learning into his life... (I hope he’s not like me, I easily forget.)The Warrior is an inspiring book. It’s told in a way that allows you to think, “Wow! I like that! I want to remember that!”And I was familiar with John Wooden. I would watch him sit quietly and calmly on the sidelines watching his teams play. He never jumped up or got excited and screamed... while the other team’s coach would be acting completely nuts. The entire book was really good... and the ending didn’t disappoint me. Which was a relief since I was so pushy with my friend.
