If you are cooking soup separate from rice, do you put the rice around the edges and the soup in the middle?

I guess you can. I've never heard of anyone cooking rice in this type of pot. Usually the 2 parts are for 2 different broths.

Does this work on 220v. we live at this moment in eu but will move us middle of next year.

Sorry, I'm clueless, but my educated guess is "no". We use 110-120 volts in US, and from traveling a lot, I have found, even with the converters you buy, items don't work right and I have fried many a hair dryer. If you are moving to the US, I would wait to buy this product .... and it works great, BTW. Maybe the company makes products designed for 220v outlets. Worth exploring

How long it takes to boil the broth? I warmed up the broth on the stove top before I added it to the shabu pot, but it took forever to get hotter.

We've not had this problem. It seems to move to a boil in a reasonable amount of time for us. Remember, this is an electric unit, so it will not boil as fast as hot pots heated with gas flame. If you are accustomed to the gas flame style hot pot, I can see where you would think this one is slow to boil.
