A must buy for grating coconuts safely and the natural way!
Wonderful device! The clamp works well on my Corian countertop to stay secure in place. The padding on upper portion of the clamp protects the surface and the "adjustable" lever gives both flexibility and leverage to tighten it by hand easily. The blades are sharp so a hand glove to protect your hand is highly recommended. The wooden handle gives a good grip to turn and it took hardly any time to grate the entire coconut. I see getting years of service from this device and another task that I can help offload from my wife as I am not comfortable using the traditional Indian device that my wife uses. http://www.amazon.com/Coconut-Grater-Shredder-Wood-Stand/dp/B005MEGJWW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1435320464&sr=8-6&keywords=coconut+grater

Coconut Heaven
I love, love, love kitchen gadgets, especially the ones that don't require electricity. When I saw this I knew I had to have it. What a well-thought-out and constructed tool! The grater made short work of the first coconut I tried, resulting in a fluffy mound of grated coconut goodness. I don't agree with some of the other reviewers who felt the attachment point was weak; I've had no trouble with it. The handle used to tighten the unit is a bit short, perhaps, but it fits nicely under my chopping block and I've had no issues tightening it. Overall it's a great tool that will see a lot of use in my kitchen!

Good Coconut Grater!
Works well. I bought this for my mother who likes to have fresh coconut daily. It's much faster than the traditional sit down scraper that she has been using. The only reason that I took a star off was because it is a little difficult to get the meat out at the bottom. You really have to turn and maneuver it to get to that area, but not impossible. This easily attached right to the countertop no problem and didn't slide. This was well worth the purchase.

Easiest way to process coconut flesh
Before, I used to slip a knife between the coconut flesh and the shell to pry it out. That's a great way to stab and cut yourself. This takes some muscle power, but it's quick and easy -- and affordable, too. Updated after two years: This is the first tool of its kind I've ever owned, and it is still far and away easier and safer to use this than to try prying the coconut meat out with a knife. I've had it now for over a year, but I've only used it a handful of times. It's simple, relatively easy to use, and effective. I think it will become more effective the more I practice with it. Overall, I like it, and I'll continue to use it. That being said, I just took it out to use after a long time -- maybe even a year? -- and parts of the paint had rusted or flaked off. (See photo.) I've only hand washed it. It has been stored on a shelf with dry goods, with plenty of ventilation, in a very dry climate. I imagine if I used it more often, or if I lived in a more humid area, it would be worse. It doesn't affect any working parts as is, but if the paint continues to flake off, it will eventually. The other thing to watch out for is that if your counter has a lip on the underside (like mine does), it can be challenging to get a tight grip. And you certainly don't want anything slipping when you're putting your hands close to a whirring blade!

No blade protector
I ordered this for my mother and when she received it, it had no blade protector with it. It is very difficult to screw the blade assembly onto the stand without it. Storing it is gonna be fun without it as well.

This grater is 100 times better. This grater is made in Sri Lanka
I brought a similar coconut grater back from South India a few years ago after I saw one there. This grater is 100 times better. This grater is made in Sri Lanka, well engineered, and does the job well. The South Indian grater clamp wouldn't hold the grater firmly in place and was difficult to use. I can't imagine how the suction cup countertop graters hold up because grating a coconut requires a very solid stable base.

Very sturdy, well made tool.
I love this tool. It's still work and you have to watch what you're doing but it makes cleaning a coconut so much easier and the coconut pulp is so much better than dried coconut from the store. A necessity if you live in the tropics.

Excellent product. Ignore these typical Indian engineers here who say the tightening screw knob is not well designed. All you need to do is find a corner of your counter top and get clamp closed just enough so that you have to somewhat pry the clamp completely over the counter top edge and tighten down as required. It doesn't take design engineer to figure the basics of tightening such a simple instrument. Their "complaints" about this wonderful tool are humorous beyond limitation!

Amazing product. Does its job so easy compared to other products I used when in the Philippines. Bit expensive but worth it. Every house must have this especially if you don't want to use the coconut milk/cream in tin where there's a lot of unhealthy ingredients . I have not bought can milk/cream since I own this grater. I would recommend this product.
