Developing Expressive Language in Verbal Students With Autism Using Rapid Prompting Method

Chapters 6,7, and 8 -EXACTLY the exercises I need to be doing with my 21 year old son who has been speaking in 2-3 word phrases for years now and seems to be "stuck." Soma is brilliant in her ability to pinpoint where the disconnects are occurring, and how to use the RPM method to work through and past those points. I was doing similar activities with my son, but she gives more details suggestions that I know are going to get us both over this huge hump we've been stalled as far as his verbal expressive ability go.... we've prompted and prompted until the cows come home, but now I'm learning a new way to support the reasoning/verbal connections. Thank-You, Soma, for taking the time and effort to develop this awesome method and share it with those of us out here seeking respectful, creative ways to help our kids reach their full potential. I love this book! I plan to read all your books, read the RED book first and was amazed at how fast my son picked up the teach/ask method and then spelling words on the letterboard, now reading this one and I'm super excited to be able to incorporate his verbal skills with our new, expansive way of working together!!! I finally feel like we have a clear path to go forward. I can't thank you enough. I read Tito's book the Mind Tree years ago, and now these manuals are explaining all the love and hard team work behind your son's ability to write that insightful, enlightening book.

Once again Soma Mukhopadhyay writes a well needed book! Verbal students with autism are severely misunderstood in many cases. Soma explains the differences in verbal students and ways to most effectively help them. She has many ideas, even little changes and strategies that will help students be successful. Anyone working with verbal autistic students will greatly benefit from this book as teachers and parents will understand and help their verbal students more effectively by understanding and applying the principles in this book. With RPM verbal students will find much more success in expressing themselves and learning to reason before responding.I highly recommend this book. I read it in one sitting and will be reading it again!
