Sometimes you don’t know what to call what you need. You just scroll through things. Once in a while up comes something that looks like it’s almost a perfect solution so you go for it. When it arrives is it actually as great a solution as you hoped? And sometimes it is. This product is one of those. I needed added weight for a 21” square umbrella base. I didn’t want raw sandbags. These are 18”. They seem very well made of tough-looking nylon (I think) . And 50 lbs of good dry sand just filled each of these up. I lined these with a heavier gauge plastic bag (garbage compactor liners, 2 mil, not gigantic) and put in the sand. 50 lbs in the plastic bag liner just filled it to capacity and it zipped ok. In the blurb it suggests a 50 lb bag of sand might just drop in these bags. Maybe some but the sand I bought was in the wrong shaped bag to fit. The filled bags sit on the umbrella base just right. They are even made with an inset to go around the pole base. I do NOT suggest wetting the sand for a few extra lbs of weight. This product is not meant to be water-tight and I doubt the plastic bag I used as a liner is either. The price is good for what seems well made and well designed. 100 total lbs adds substantially to tipping resistance and stability. I might have selected a wider base, which would help. Wind will apply substantial tipping force to umbrellas , especially wide ones. Probably best to furl it if breezy.
