The Drawn Sword Of God
khalid ibn il-waleed was an architect a thinker an engineer and military genius-- although few people have captivated me so, I can count them on one hand perhaps Peter the great or Russia I'd put on par with him although of course lacking the faith which is the ultimate factor for success and of course even Peter the Great had to retreat to the Ottoman empire despite his undisputed expansions. If you want to learn about the contentions between Persia and Arabs (as a race not under a religion) I'd say it goes back to that time- Khalid took down a 300 year old powerful Persian empire in a matter of days. I am astounded by his military genius and tactics and often wonder how he would handle the situation in the Muslim world today especially in his city of Homs in Syria which has fallen prey to despots and of course western cronies & mercenaries who have spread their tentacles everywhere with their carpet bombing style warfare whether on ground or in the media.I don't agree with some aspects of the author's research but certainly would take his account over that of rabid orientalists as is suggested by the other reviewer-- their sole purpose and since the inception of Islam is to distort history and present a secondary or even a tertiary opinion over documented historical facts to further their agenda- precisely why his name will remain an indelible mark as one of history's great military figures- the numbers and demographics of his victories speak volume where inaccurate conjectures and hyperbole of seething orientalists perish like their person to nothing more than forgotten fodder for maggots!
