Breezy read with great character depth
Lacie Waldon packs a lot into this story. The characters are rich and complex without taking them into moral grey areas, keeping this a nice light read. It's witty, has vivid scenery, and characters you can really root for. Highly recommended for romcom fans!

Put this fun, breezy romance in your beachbag!
In this debut novel, Ava is a recently engaged flight attendant about to embark on her final working trip as a flight attendant. Urged on by her future husband, Alexander, she is planning to set down roots in Chicago. As a bonus, there is a coveted 24-hour layover in Belize. Ava’s excitement is dampened when she learns Jack Stone, someone she’s avoided for years, is working this trip with her.Jack is clueless as to why Ava does not like him and seems amused at her chilly behavior. After their plane breaks down and they are forced to stay another 24 hours in Belize, Ava contemplates her true feelings about her career, her past, her relationships, and her feelings for Jack. This is a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance, and I was engaged from beginning to end. I have always been fascinated by the commercial air industry, so I enjoyed a peek into the pros and cons of life as a flight attendant.Ava is a great co-worker, has a keen sense of adventure, and is prone to making snap judgments. She has her work routine regimented with precision, but her personal life is all over the map. The unexpected delay gives her time for some soul-searching and making self-discoveries. I wish there were a deeper dive into her lack of true friendships and her nomadic life as a child.Ava and Jack have a funny, competitive streak that stays with them from take-off to final landing. I laughed at their clever back and forth banter and absolutely adored their co-workers, Gen and Paul.If you enjoy breezy island romances and want to feel the warm sand in your toes, then I recommend you add this book to your beach bag before the captain has turned on the fasten seatbelt sign!

Everyone can relate to a character!
I’m not much of a reader, mainly because I lose interest in the first chapter. A friend suggested The Layover and I read it in 2 days. I couldn’t put it down. I could relate to every character. It’s like the book was made to describe all the different pieces of ones personality: charming, quiet, reserved, outgoing, obnoxiously cute, timid, confident, romantic, flirtatious, big ego, self absorbed, and sarcastic, loving, optimistic, and perseverance!! The list could go on. I promise you’ll love the book. I’m actually reading it for the 2nd time.

Fun escape!
Spoilers included. This book is SO much fun. The flight attendant tidbits are interesting and hilarious. The characters are super funny and always have the best quips. The banter feels so relatable that you can’t help but laugh out loud. I read almost the entire book during two flights for business meetings, and it made me feel like I was actually going on a fun vacation instead!Ava, the main character, is wonderfully complex. She is self-reliant, witty and seems to have no fear. Underneath that strong exterior are childhood wounds that she believes can only be overcome through stability and routine – the kind of stability offered by her boring, emotionally distant fiancé.As she is waylaid in Belize for an extended layover on her “last” trip as a flight attendant, she realizes she cannot give up the exciting life of travel. When she tells her fiancé, he immediately cuts off their engagement – intolerant of her career choice. This painful moment sets her free to pursue her own dreams and along the way, she finds herself falling in love with her archenemy, Jack. The budding relationship between Jack and Ava is tantalizing and draws you into their world. You will find yourself rooting for them to understand each other and giggling at their banter all at the same time. The layover is definitely worth the read.

The perfect summer read
This is a fun and exciting Rom-Com set in the life of a flight crew. Ava Green, is newly engaged to Alexander who wants his fiancée to quit her job as a flight attendant and be his stay at home wife. We get the feeling early on that Ava is going along with his request but may have some reservations. She moved into HIS home that is furnished with HIS things. She has agreed to leave her job after one last trip that just happens to have a layover in Belize. As she boards the plane for her last work tour, she spots Jack, a fellow flight attendant and for whom she holds a grudge for something she thinks he did years ago. While on the trip, Ava reflects and realizes that she doesn’t want to quit her job. She just wants Alexander to love her for who she is but will he still love her if she keeps her job?As the crew extends their stay due to mechanical problems with the plane, not everything or everyone is as it seems to Ava and sparks fly!Thoughts: I don’t read many Rom-Coms so when I do I just want to be entertained and this one did not disappoint! The book is full of characters with great personality! The setting is so vivid that you feel like you’re there with the crew sitting poolside eating nachos and sipping cocktails.
