I tried everything to get rid of the bubbles in the thermometer, but nothing worked. I guess you get what you pay for.

My old glass candy thermometer didn't seem as accurate as I'd like and given that I'd read good things about Taylor, I hunted this one down.It wasn't worth the effort.First, I noticed in the store that one of the thermometers was broken at the tip; it had apparently shipped that way. I ensured that the one I bought looked okay and brought it home to check its accuracy by bringing water to a boil.On the plus side, the numbers are large and should be easy to read and even though it's not marked per se, can be read as low as 75ºF/25ºC. And there are metric measurements as well, which was important to me. So far, so good.I had a notion that all wasn't well when it became apparent that the sliding clip that holds the thermometer on the pot almost obliterated the numbers. Coupled with the fact that the glass fogs up more than seems usual for a thermometer of this type and in this price range, the numbers all but disappeared, especially since there are no special indicators for the significant temperatures on the Celsius side. The worst, however, was yet to come.NYC must be a lot closer to the sun than I previously thought because it didn't matter how long I boiled that water--it never hit either 212ºF or 100ºC. Considering that I'm dealing with an area where a mere 5ºF makes a critical difference, this was EXTREMELY disappointing; I could've saved my money because the old thermometer is less off the mark than this thing.Don't waste your money on this--there are probably glass candy thermometers available with the same degree of inaccuracy that can be had for much less money. (Unless, of course, you're a Finnish, liver-lipped ugly-boy troll who stalks reviews for the purpose of impotently assigning unhelpful votes to people who want nothing to do with him.)

This product should not be on the market, cheaply made and potentially dangerous. I used it to make yogurt, milk seeped inside the tube, unsure if mercury or other toxin seeped out into the yogurt, needed to toss batch. Contacted the company, no response.
