The filter that comes with it does not. After several months, I did replace it with a filter that does. Filters are available for a variety of service duty from sediment, and chlorine taste removal, all the way to lead, giardia, arsenic, etc removal. Remember, it is the filter element that does the work. a .05 should be good for what you need.

Does it come ready to use with the filter? also since you purchased it any complaints or problems?

Hi Noel, We like it better than our previous one. Better that it's clear as sunlight kills mold/mildew - not that we've ever had an issue with that, but just in case. It does come with a filter, but it wasn't great. I'd suggest this one: KX Matrikx 02-250-125-975 Extruded Activated Carbon Block Filter, 10-Inch.Also, would suggest getting a strap wrench. The one design flaw of ALL of these types of countertop filters is the difficulty of being able to grip the bottom while trying to screw on or off the upper housing, especially when trying to do a filter replacement. There's a wrench that comes with it that grips the top, but would suggest getting some help gripping the bottom. Cheers!
