Great movie, fantastic presentation.
This movie is as good today as it was when I first saw it. First class performances from Kate Beckinsale and Hugh Jackman, and the story is great. The picture and audio quality is very high, in line some 4k presentations I have seen.

Van Helsing - Blu-ray (Fabulous Films 2021 re-release)
Is it a ‘good’ film? Probably not. Do I enjoy it’s goofy, gargantuan ridiculousness? Definitely yes!Monster hunter Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman throwing himself into the action as always) is dispatched by the Vatican to Transylvania to help the loyal Valerious family, led by their last surviving member Anna (Kate Beckinsale), to deal with a tiny wee local problem involving Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man and a few others here and there.Conceptually, Stephen Sommers takes the basics of many of the 30’s and 40’s classic Universal Monsters characters and gleefully plays with them like a child playing with their favourite toys smashing them all together and making up a story as they go. And the result is pretty much what you’d imagine, if that child was given $150 million dollars in 2003/4 money to go make it real. The plot is fairly irrelevant to be sure and it plays second fiddle to a never ending and ever increasing in scale series of set pieces that is virtually non-stop for the two and a bit hours the film runs for. The dialogue is terrible but the cast seem to be enjoying themselves hugely, and the sheer scale of both the physical set design, lavish visual effects and high production values means even at almost 17 years old (crikey, and I saw it cinemas as well!), it still looks terrific for the most part. The extras include two commentaries (one with Stephen Sommers and one with three of the cast, the former being more interesting than the latter, but both of which go back to the original release of the film on DVD), and a batch of featurettes and behind the scenes stuff. For £9.99 it’s absolutely fine although if you have the existing Blu-ray (which I never had) there would be absolutely no reason to buy this as there is no real difference.
