I can tell you that the Simpsons shaving brush has a knot or brush made of badger hair (I would call it a hybrid between badger and wild boar because of the texture it has) It is clearly not a synthetic knot shaving brush, Simpsons manufactures many models some of them without are synthetic but this one in particular is Pure Badger hair.

How big is the diameter of the knot?) And why have I seen other special ones with lighter fibers?)
