Pros and cons of 1 slot vs. 2 and which size this--or shorter for smallish elderly lady, very limited mobility?

I don't think the number of slots matters. You can just choose to use a slot or not. If you only have 1 slot, you can position it on the side where you want to use it. I think the length of the board is more important. I actually use 2 different length boards for my mom. I use this one to transfer her from the wheelchair to the bed and another (shorter) one - with no slots - to transfer her from the bed to the wheelchair. I don't think the size of the person (smallish elderly lady) is as significant as the distance that you need to transfer. Hope that helps!

The board is 8" wide by 30" long & accommodates weight to 440 lbs. because it's about 3/4" thick. My husband is 6' 1" & weighs 250+ lbs - and accommodates him. Hope this helps!

Is the wood sealed for easy transfer, I really can't tell from the pictures?

Yes, the wood is sealed --- no chance of splinters, if that is what you were asking. My husband is 6'1" & weighs more than 250 lbs. This is a very strong board to accommodate him. The price was good plus the shipping was excellent. He used it while going to outpatient rehab in a hospital and it seems as good if not better than the ones the hospital furnishes. You don't want to slide off it by making it as slippery as glass.
