Service met all expectations
Reviewing the book seller only (the book itself is a must-have in any organization’s library). The book arrived in good condition, on time, and accurate to the description. It has been previously enjoyed and markings are minimal and non-distracting, as the seller indicated.

Leader's Lead...WHEN They Know How
As a performance improvement specialist for over 25 yrs, I am always on the look out for good resources that those I work with can use day to day to help them do what they know they should, what they dream of doing, and what their mission, vision, values call them to do. The problem is that many books contain "needle in a haystack" pearls of wisdom that take so long to discover that people give up on finding them. THE LEADER'S HANDBOOK is NOT like that. Each easy-to-read, well organized section contains tons of practice, roll up your sleeves and do this kind of advice. Additionally there are tons of tips and traps for today's busy leaders. This is NOT a book that will gather dust bunnies on a leader's bookshelf. It will be read, used, referred to, and shared. I have used this book to train, mentor, and coach leaders at all levels in engineering, transportation, healthcare, biotech, federal and state government, the military, and non-profit groups. It has always been well received and I have had several calls/emails back from those I recommended this book to that said, "Where was this book when I first started leading/managing? It is fantastic!"So, do yourself and your leadership teams a favor. Buy this book.

While arguably a classic, still an inspirational and insightful read
This is a content rich book with both powerful ideas and strong supporting illustrations. For me, this book reads like a classic read on the science of business process design while supporting the need for data - still to this day - to guide the transformation of business results vs over reliance on opinion. The author’s multi-sentence definition of leadership that appears late in the book serves as an inspirational vision statement for those seeking to deploy a fully formed leadership model. The discussion of “flow” is insightful for managers striving to optimize employee performance. The discussion on company culture is helpful for leaders that are wondering why their impression may vary considerably from the that of non leaders; less formal variables that define the actual cultural experience are described.

Better than I expected
I was able to reference this guide for much of the work I am performing and was grateful to have it on hand for discussions with my colleagues. Good book, get a copy for your library.

I gave it to my boss!
I chose this rating because the book made sense, practical and basic. Companies today only make decisions by the bottom line or only what they want and not with consideration to employees. We are to be used and discarded and use the next one. There is no longevity, loyalty and working as a team or one company.

A true handbook on management techniques, tools and systems
Peter R. Scholtes claims that Knute Rockne's classic "Win one for the Gipper" speech had nothing to do with Notre Dame's victory over Army in 1928. What blasphemy! Instead, Scholtes says, Notre Dame won because of its superior "training, conditioning and coaching" - its unbeatable system. Throughout this outstanding business management book, Scholtes insists on the superiority of such team-driven systems, in which every member makes a contribution, over individualistic, top-down management. As a former colleague and disciple of the fabled W. Edwards Deming, who inspired the Japanese method of Total Quality Control, Scholtes speaks and writes with singular authority on this topic. His book is designed to be used, with a spiral binding, charts, bulleted lists, illustrations, sidebars (including the one about Knute Rockne) and suggestions for further reading. getAbstract suggests that if you want to learn more about business management, you'll score a touchdown when you read this comprehensive guidebook.

Awesome
I recommend this read to every leader. It is a bit dry in places, but the leadership foundation material in this book is the basis for nearly all current leadership standards. This book is a foundation to build on. If you can get a copy do it.

Une référence
très bon ouvrage sur le leadership, écrit par un auteur atypique (il a commencé sa carrière comme prêtre). Dommage qu'il n'existe pas en français.

Should be the leader's bible
This book should be a 'must read' for every manager in every organisation. Maybe then we'd see some real improvement in our services and an abandoning of command and control governance.Scholtes is a follower of Deming, and is possibly the best person to read as an introduction to Deming, including reading Deming himself! This is because, after years of experience and reflection, Scholtes has encapsulated how to apply Deming's ideas into the leadership role.He starts by explaining how the command-and-control management approach evolved, and in debunking many of its principles, introduces a better way: systems thinking. He then goes on to explain how systems thinking applies to leadership and what competencies are involved. In chapters 4 and 5 he deals with business as usual and shows how systems thinking and continuous improvement should be applied.Next he deals with breakthrough improvement, and gives a 7-step approach to successful breakthrough.Chapter 7 deals with measurements and targets, and in common with other writers on the Lean approach, emphasises the importance of good measures of process performance (not people performance) over the use of KPIs and targets. The last chapters of the book focus on the different paradigms of leadership that this involves, from using observation and questioning through to getting rid of performance appraisal and incentive schemes.Even if you don't agree with everything, the book will at the very least make you think about how to lead and "manage" effectively. For my money, this is one of the best books on leadership and management, and I thoroughly recommend it.

A acheter.
