Yes this yoyo comes with string.

does this come apart so you can change the batteries and untangle or replace the string?

Yes you can unscrew the 2 halves and remove the internal parts from the center (you need to remove the white center with the string attached and then a washer), once apart you can unscrew the 2 small screws that hold the cover that house the batteries. Once the batteries are replaced place the plate back on and tighten screws back into place hand tight. Put the internal parts back and then put the 2 halves back together and tighten the yoyo back to one part.
