Hurricane tested
I was hiking the AT in Shenandoah National Park when the remnants of Hurricane Ian came to visit with high winds and torrential rains. Then a winter like temperture drop. This underquilt protector saved the day. Absolutly guaranteed that my UQ would have been soaked without it. That would have been dangerours and potentially deadly in those conditions.Against the wind and rain, I raised the side walls up high. This provided several feet of overlapping coverage between the bottom of the tarp and the top of the sidewall. That provided ventilation while keeping the rain out. Meanwhile inside, my TQ and I were in a warm dry pocket protected from wind and rain.I bought this as a quick fix, a replacement of a Hammock Gear UQP which I had mislaid.Comparing the two, the basic function is the same, they both keep the wind and water out.Suspension is a little easier to figure out on the HG version and this model has longer bungee cords which can get in the way and are confusing. This model is, for the most part, as good as the HG version but at half the cost.I will not use a hammock without one in wet or cold weather. In warm weather, it can be moved aside if you want to be cooler but it also provides a layer of defense against insects biting you through the hammock. To address some issues in other reviews:1- It is not insulation, like a down jacket. It protects insulation from the elements, like a rain jacket over your down jacket.2 - It is thin and care should be taken against tears but that is true of all your gear.3 - It needs to be hung outside your UQ so it is not crushing it, just as the UQ should be hung so it is not being crushed by the hammock. Adjust the head and foot accordingly. If in doubt, buy this product.

I did a video on this
On Cooter Malloy Product Reviews, I did several videos using this while on a hammock trip up in the San Gabriel mountains. To me the biggest reason for buying this was to keep moisture and that morning dew off of my under quilt. As a side bonus, I believe this also adds just a few more degrees in temperature rating to whatever under quilt system you are using with your hammock. It's kind of odd, but I suppose during the summer months, you might be able to get away with using just this under quilt protector, by leaving some let's say 4 to 6 in of air gap underneath your hammock to give you that little bit of wind and Breeze protection should the temperatures dip down at night. I mean this would only be like in an emergency situation, or if you're really packing light. It's still better to use some kind of underquilt regardless. There is a series of straps and connectors, and chords and cables that I still haven't understood why there are so many of. Lol.Each one has its specific purpose, one to adjust how short or long the overall length is, one to adjust how snug or loose the fit is at the ends, and the other one?? Still a mystery to me. Lol.It does pack up really small, and it is really light comparison to some other hammock basic equipment.

Cover is a great addition.
I got the covers the day were went on a overnight Boy Scout winter camp out. It snowed 6” on us during the night. The low for the night was about 27 degrees Fahrenheit. This was not the coldest we have slept in our hammocks. We slept in the back yard down to 16 degrees two weeks before without the cover on a clear night in Utah. I found the cover is a great additional item to keep the rain/snow off your under quilt and retain a little more heat. With all my layers in clothing my upper body was starting to sweat and I had to vent my sleeping bag which is a -30 degree bag. The rest of the scouts thought we were nuts for sleeping in hammocks but with the right gear we found out that we slept the warmest and didn’t want to get out of our hammocks. Everyone else was up trying to get warm. You can see by the picture we are using BearButt Tarps, Grand Trunk Double hammocks and straps and the Onewind under quilts. The cover gives you a little more protection with this set up.To recap the Onewind under quilt and cover are a great addition to our hammock set up. It keeps the wind out and retains heat.February 20, 2021 Update: Camp out at Boy Scout Camporee near Peter Sinks Utah which holds the 2nd place record for coldest temperatures in the lower 48. It got down to 10 degrees F with wind at the rim of the sink. I couldn’t get the tarp on a steeper pitch to keep wind out due to the 3’ of snow. The protector kept the wind and snow away from the under quilt and kept us warm again. Wish I would have dug downs into the snow and lowered the hammock and put the tarp lower to the ground and keep the wind out.

Enjoying it
This under quilt is great and dies the job. I recently used it on a chilly day and it worked perfectly. It kept my hammock insulated and I wasn’t bothered when it got windy.

Total Wind Block for your Hammock -
Super lightweight, and condenses easily into stuff sac pocket! First tested it in 45 degrees with wind gust of over 30 mph, nothing came thru! The true test came when camped in -9 real feel with 28 mph winds Worked perfect, no air flow came "in" thru the Onewind Premium Hammock Underquilt Protector! (it not only protected the underquilt but added protection from trapped warm air from getting "out!) Total win win!! Plus its long enough to cover hammock end to end - which was a huge benefit, and wide enough to fit a double hammock plus I'm a side sleeper! So impressed, I'm buying another to sew to one long side to bottom protector - to use as a fold over the top, the storage pocket will be on the fold over side, you can store something in it as weight, to keep it from flying back over you in high winds!!!! Plus you can then throw it over your above hammock gear line as a tarp!! One wind should make this option!!! So impressed I already bought one for a friend! Highly suggest adding this item to your hammock camping arsenal! Not just for summer use!! Winter hammock camping is awesome!!
