GREAT product!
If I could give this item 6 stars, I wouldn't hesitate. At first, you might think it is a little expensive for a watering system for your pets, and I was a little hesitant ------- but I am so glad I did. I purchased the 5 gal. Critter Cooler, delivery was quick, the product is very sturdy and well made with top grade materials. Instructions for use were very clear, came with extra large size 0 rings and even directs you to a video that explains everything and shows how to make it very easy to fit the top on correctly. It took me literally 15 minutes to get this together and working, and my dogs now have constant cool water. I keep mine in the kitchen, throw in ice cubes and fill with water and in less than 5 minutes, the cooler is refilled and refreshed. This is a well thought out product, can't think of anything that it is lacking. A person can end up spending much more on other dog watering systems, such as the fountain type, where the pumps can fail and need to be replaced. This critter cooler has no pumps to break, plus it keeps the water fresh and cool and nothing "electrical" to consider. You pay for this once and then use it forever without having to replace expensive parts. Makes good sense to me. I plan to purchase another for use on my outdoor patio this summer. My cooler takes care of my husky and 3 pugs! They all love the cool water! Lynda IT HAS BEEN 2 YEARS SINCE I PURCHASED THIS ITEM and I am still just as enthusiastic about my review. Even though it came with an extra O ring, I have not yet had to replace the original. I still keep it in the kitchen --- throw ice into it, roll it over to my kitchen sink and fill the container using the sink hose. No mess, no lifting ---- then screw the top on and roll it back to its position in the kitchen. My 3 pug dogs line up to drink from it like it was the office water cooler! so cute. My husky has since passed away, but this was fantastic for her also. After 2 years, I still highly recommend this item.

A must if you are getting older have hand/back limitations.
I am on a permanent 10 pound restriction. Between lifting a large water feeder or making 5 fills a day with a pitcher I needed a better solution.. (My dog drinks at least a gallon and a half a day. Plus I have two cats.) I found this and we are all so happy with it! I removed the little elbow so the dish fills higher. Just make sure you leave at least an inch or two of space at the top of the bucket when you fill it or it won’t get the suction pressure needed to keep it from flowing out. Ask me how I know.😂 Tried filling all the way to the top and ended up making a mess. That was all on me!

My new favorite watering container! Works for little dogs too!
I love this watering container. I had been looking at this for months prior to buying it. I just couldn’t justify the cost until I realized how much I would be spending to replace my 2 gravity water dishes. It would cost me just a little more. This is on wheels and opens at the top, just remember to turn off the valve or you will have water everywhere. It is easy to clean. Just pop out the plug and drain the water in the dish and wipe it out. This is a heavy duty bucket. We use the same style bucket for our compost pickup service that includes a ratchet lock on the lid which makes it animal proof. I know it will last long because a bear has gotten into the compost bucket and dented it but did not break it and the dent popped out but is wasn’t easy. The best thing about this watering container is the customer service. It came very well packaged. Tightly packed with tightly pack newspaper rather than plastic or styrofoam. I recycled the newspaper. The base was broken at where one of the wheels attaches. It could have been glued back together but not sure how stable it would have been. I emailed the company to get advice and they immediately replied, apologized and mailed out a replacement part. I will probably still try to fix the broken one. Also I did not realize that they include several replacement gaskets for the lid. This is amazing! Most companies this is where they get you is replacing these little things. I plan on buying a 3.5 gallon container for use outside in the future. Thank you!

Get this for your dogs. You deserve it, they deserve it.
I'd REALLY like to give this 5 stars...I probably should give it 5 stars...but the lid is difficult. The lid on occasion has been over tightened and will then be extremely difficult to take off. I know this is a reality of the 5 gallon bucket design, but it is enough to cost a star. Now...if you have dogs. You NEED this watering device. Take care with the lid and you'll be forever happy. The volume of water it holds is great for a multi-dog environment. My rambunctious and somewhat "special" Labrador cannot tip it over. Properly sealed it does not leak (I wish this was true of their tongues). And the wheels make it a dream to move around. I find it easy to fill and clean and other than the lid being difficult this is the best watering system I've come across for my dogs. The only thing better might by a year round stream, but that is not in the budget.

Buy this!!!
Ok so this is by far the best customer service I have EVER experienced. When I received the product, my husband put it together. One of the legs wouldn’t stay in. (It was completely our fault for not watching the videos that the creator had on his website). I called the number that was located in the box to call if I had any issues. The actual owner called me back personally. First off, I was surprised at that! He was so kind! He walked me through the entire process and told me to call him back anytime with any issues. He meant that! I ended up calling again just for a question I had and he was quick to return my call again. You don’t find that these days. Not only is it great customer service but the product is wonderful! I no longer have to lug large jugs around to water my dogs. I just push the container (it’s on wheels, that lock and unlock) over to my sink and fill it with water! My dogs love it, I love it. I know it’s a little expensive, but it’s sooo worth it. Do yourself a favor if you have pets, buy this!

It leaks, a lot, and randomly
I bought this last summer and right off the bat it was troublesome leaking 5 gallons of water on the kitchen floor, slowly but still in 24-hours it was empty. The fill pipe passes through the bucket through the base into the water bowl with two rubber o-rings to seal it. this is troublesome so I had to order a tube of food-safe silicone to seal all of this business from leaking. The next trick is getting a good seal on the lid, after several attempts I discovered if you wet the O-ring with olive oil it works better. Once the pets drink the water you have to fill it. I found setting it on the edge of the sink so the wheels holding onto the edge of the sink and then turning the lid with all of your might you can get the lid to open. Seriously there are no handles or anything really to get a firm purchase on to open the lid. once you get it open you can fil it but you really need to spin the lid counterclockwise a couple of times to make sure it's lined up because if you don't get a perfect seal and I mean an honest perfect seal this thing is going to trickle 5 gallons of water everywhere. I'm out the almost $200 and buying a little bit smaller waterer I found for $48. Maybe I can sell this one at a garage sale.

worth the price
I was looking for a pet waterer that: 1. Could be filled *from*the*top* with no spillage, 2. Holds *a*lot* of water (I live alone, and if something happened to me it might be several days before family members realized something was wrong; I wanted to make sure my two cats would have sufficient food and water to cover the gap); and 3. Doesn't depend on electricity, being hooked up to plumbing, etc. (I live in an apartment, in an area with occasional long power outages; once again, if something happened to me I wanted my pets to have water, with or without power.) The Critter Concepts line were the only waterers I found that fit the bill. I set the waterer inside a shallow black plastic farm feed trough, big enough for the waterer and at least one cat at a time to sit inside the trough. (One of my cats likes to play in the water; the trough keeps his splashes from soaking the kitchen floor.) To fill the waterer, I close the spout, open the lid, and add water from a size small Tubtrugs flexible bucket shaped to form a pouring spout -- no spillage at all. The lid is a bit challenging to get back on and sealed, but I'm getting the hang of it. With two cats, the amount of water in this thing looks like it might last for months. So if you have two cats, you might want to consider one of the smaller Critter Concepts sizes. The design doesn't seem to allow for much backflow contamination, so I'm not too worried about the water in the tank staying fresh. When the water in the bowl gets dirty, I can simply seal the spout, remove the drain plug, and drain the dirty water into a small bowl held underneath the waterer. It does look like the rubber o-ring inside the lid will need frequent replacement (possibly almost every time I open the lid to refill, though due to the capacity of the waterer that won't be super often). The waterer came with several o-rings and I suspect replacements can be found cheaply at the hardware store. To me, it's worth it not to have to worry about lifting heavy tanks, spilling water all over the floor as I try to maneuver an upside-down tank into its base, or having my pets run out of water.

4 years later still love it!
I've owned this since NOV 2021. I recently was thinking about it due to a reddit post asking what expensive purchase that was totally worth it. As far as dog waterers go, I would consider this the expensive version. It's 100% worth it. I have 5 dogs. They drink A LOT of water. At the time of purchase I was looking for something with a lot of capacity that didn't involve trying to carry something heavy. I found this and it was worth every penny. It doesn't leak unless you aren't careful about checking seals. We've had 2 leaks in 4 years and they were both due to user error. My dogs like it. It's easy to fill and clean. It's held up really well. It's a really great made product. I recommend it all the time. If you are thinking about, just buy it. You won't have any regrets!
